It is now a few weeks before the official start of the Christmas season, and the smartphone industry already has its main players on the market. Two of the key players will certainly be the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the new Nexus 4,which is manufactured by LG. The Galaxy S3 has been on the market for several months now, and the LG Nexus 4 was just released Tuesday.
Both smartphones run on the Android operating system and their dimensions are very similar. There is a slight difference in weight in favor of the Samsung Galaxy S3, weighing a few grams less than the Nexus 4. The Galaxy S3 weighs 133 grams and the Nexus 4 weighs in at 139 grams. The Galaxy S3 has recently been updated with the latest version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the Nexus 4 incorporates a revamped version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2.
Screen and digital camera
The Galaxy S3 has a HD Super AMOLED screen of 4.8 inches with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and the Nexus 4 has a 4.7 inch True HD IPS display Plus with a resolution of 1276 x 768 pixels. The main camera of the Galaxy is 8 megapixels and supports video recording in HD 1080p and the secondary camera is 1.9 megapixels. The Nexus 4 main camera is 8 megapixels (3280 x 2464), supports video recording HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) and the secondary camera is 1.3 megapixels (1280 x 1024). Both terminals have LED flash.
Processor, connectivity and storage
The Galaxy S3 incorporates a dual-core (quad-core for international version) 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and an Adreno 225 GPU, while the Nexus 4 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor which is also clocked at 1.5 GHz.
Both Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 features NFC (Near Field Communication) capability, but Nexus 4 does not include the LTE connection option. Both phones have microUSB connection and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. In the section of internal memory, the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with 16, 32 and 64 GB and LG Nexus 4 is available in two versions with 8 GB and 16 GB. In the case of the Nexus 4, it lacks the ability to expand this memory using microSD cards. The Galaxy S3 has 2 GB of RAM and 2 GB comes with the Nexus 4 as well.
The Galaxy S3 has an average price of $549, although a better deal can be obtained for those who sign a contract. Meanwhile, the LG Nexus 4 is for sale at a price of $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB) unlocked. Although both phones will make good choices, the ability of the Galaxy S3 to expand its memory via microSD cards and LTE connectivity make it the winner. However, many may choose the Nexus 4 over Galaxy S3 because of its cheaper price.
