Join us for a holiday walk through the beautiful Kehl Lake Natural Area. Learn a bit about the natural and human history of the area, and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the winter woods and lakeshore. We’ll be on the lookout for signs of the abundant wildlife wintering in this rich habitat. If there is deep snow, bring your snowshoes!
This walk will be led by Docents Marsha Buehler, Candy Gardener, and Holly Pharmer.
Chippewa Run Natural Area Guided Walk-Sunday, January 20th, 2pm

With its four separate ecosystems, Chippewa Run Natural Area trails highlight many natural wonders during any season; however, it is especially beautiful when the red pine plantation, old apple orchard, and large stand of big tooth aspens are covered with snow. As we hike through the area that provides a habitat for deer and other wildlife, the terrain is easy with only one moderate hill. Whether you hike in boots or snowshoes, you will enjoy this wonderful and important natural area and learn about its history.
Docents Lou Ricord and JoAnne Gerben will lead the hike.
Houdek Dunes Natural Area Guided Walk-Saturday, January 26tth, 10am January 26th, 2013 at 10:00am —
Winter is a great time to experience Houdek Dune. You’ll discover clues to the myriad of wildlife activities occurring daily in this special 330-acre natural area. We’ll look for evidence of some of the unique species with which we co-exist; all of which contribute to the richness of Leelanau’s ecosystems. Snowshoes would be advisable if there is lots of snow. This walk will be led by Docents Ann McInnis, JoAnne Gerben, Judy Smart, and Janet Ward.
DeYoung Natural Area Guided Walk-Sunday, February 3rd, 1pm February 3rd, 2013 at 1:00pm —
Join Docents Dave Amos and Mary Smart on a winter walk through time. The DeYoung hike offers a gentle walk (or snowshoe) around the DeYoung property and a tour of the 1860 farmhouse and lower barn. The property is a reflection of the changing times from the inception of Traverse City to now with a rare opportunity to see inside those buildings we pass when using the Leelanau trail. Dress warmly and enjoy an interesting part of our local history.

Join guides Ann McInnis, Ed Ketterer, and Janet Ward for a tracking adventure to discover the myriad wintertime activities of our resident wildlife. Read the stories told by tracks and traces, nibbles and nips, sounds and sights, to learn about wildlife survival strategies at this Conservancy natural area.
Lighthouse West Natural Area Guided Hike – Saturday, April 20th, at 2pm April 20th, 2013 at 2:00pm —
The signs of spring comes a bit late at Lighthouse West Natural Area near the tip of the peninsula, but there will be much to be seen by this time. Join docents Ann McInnis and Ed Ketterer in a search for the early songbird migrants, waterfowl, spring wildflowers, and (if we are lucky) migrating raptors. The hike begins at 2PM, from the parking lot.
