On Dec. 5, 2012, Hollywood Life wrote a new article suggesting the reason behind Kristen Stewart’s summer affair with “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders was possibly due to her boredom with Robert Pattinson. The outlet turned to statements Stewart had made regarding challenging herself and surrounding herself with people who challenged her. The publication asked if she connected to the classic Kerouac book and film due to boredom with Pattinson, the implication being that boredom may have ultimately led to the affair.
Hollywood Life quoted Stewart as saying, “You can fall into the habit of being comfortable. There are people that are nice to be around, but they don’t challenge you. Those are not the people I wanted in my life. I want people to throw me off a little bit so I can figure out why.”
The quote begs the question whether Stewart felt her relationship with Pattinson had become comfortable.
The report continued quoting Stewart, “After I read the book, I thought I needed to find people that I feel like I needed to chase after.”
Whether the comments were intended to provide introspection on Stewart’s personal life remains seen, but the remarks have certainly caused a stir with Stewart’s fans in light of the cheating scandal. As an affair is often the result of several factors, there is nothing to definitively say that Stewart was bored with Rob therefore cheated. The remarks; however, have brought up the issue that for some women, boredom is a contributing factor for an affair.
Is an Affair out of Boredom a Good Idea?
While no one knows the reasons behind Stewart’s relationship with Sanders, it is a known fact that many people conduct affairs out of boredom. Is an affair out of boredom ever a good idea? In short – no. Boredom is never a good reason to commit infidelity and never provides the solution the person intended. It is preferable to take a long, introspective look in one’s self and determine the true source of boredom and address that issue. Finding relief for boredom by adding sexual partners to a relationship often adds more trouble than it’s worth.
Affairs are stressful situations that can have life altering consequences. What someone may have intended to add a little “spice” to a boring, comfortable pattern can become an out of control situation that threatens family, work and even friendships. Affairs are stressful business and the results can be devastating. Losing family stability or a life partner because someone chose to sleep with another person when he or she could have engaged in a new hobby, or focused on personal growth is often a choice many live to regret. If you are bored, learn a new skill – don’t take on a new sex partner.
