In tonight’s episode of “Kitchen Nightmares,” Chef Gordon Ramsay headed back to three restaurants that he had helped out in the past. He wants to see if they have kept their word and continued to follow his teaching to make their business grow; or have fallen back to their old way that was ready to destroy them.
First stop is Cafe Hon, outside of Baltimore, Maryland. He has heard awful things about Cafe Hon and the owner Denise. She has trademarked the name “Hon” and even sued people who tried to use the word. She was infamous for their pink flamingos, and her staff was sick of her and her wicked ways. The community got together and told her to lose the trademark. She even went on the radio to apologize to the people and use a new menu and change her attitude. That was what happened on the first visit. Now on this revisit, Gordon goes back to the radio station where the apology was given to find out if things have changed. Most people have come around; she had given up the trademark, and the food was good. Denise is in a great state, and the restaurant was still booming. She is more involved with the community and have won back those who were against her. Denise made Gordon an avocado burger that was delicious. She received a commendation from a councilman for her community service.
The second stop was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Chiarella’s Ristorante to meet with owners, Tommy and Dina DeFino. Tommy was in a serious case of denial; his food was terrible, and he would not own up to it. Gordon got it turned around, but did it last? One year later, on this revisit Gordon hopes to find the changes still in place. Dina is calm and collected and 20% happier business. Tommy is still a happy owner, and their relationship is much better. They are saving up for a liquor license. Gordon enjoyed a good meal with a happy family, and Gordon told them he was personally contributing to their liquor license fund.
Next Gordon went to Leone’s in Montclair, New Jersey where he previously confronted a mother and son, Rose and Michael. He was the laziest owner Gordon ever saw. When Gordon ordered everything on the menu, it was awful. He shut down the restaurant during dinner service because of the mess he found in the kitchen. Now the restaurant is up to 40% in revenue, and the new menu is a hit. The employees give Gordon the truth; that Michael does not come into the restaurant until later in the evening. He now watches television across the street in a bar. Michael ran after Gordon when he left the restaurant and apologized to Chef Ramsay and owned up to his promise. In the days following, Michael kept his word and promises that if Chef Ramsay ever comes back again, he will see a new Michael, thanks to Gordon and “Kitchen Nightmares.”
