On the eve of Thanksgiving, country star Kenny Chesney was readying for his halftime performance at the Nov. 22, 2012, football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins, which will begin at 3:15 p.m. (CT) Nov. 22 on FOX-TV.
Earlier today, Nov. 21, the recent Billboard Touring Awards winner was “adding last-minute touches” to his Turkey Day-meets-pigskin performance at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Per the the hard-touring, hit-making Chesney’s PR camp, the songster “is excited to a part of the kick-off of The Salvation Army’s 122nd annual Red Kettle Campaign,” an event that will be seen by millions, thanks to its network-TV viewing audience.
“This is a time of year when many people are in need of a helping hand … (and) I’m excited to partner with The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys to encourage the American people to help the less fortunate,” Chesney said in a missive shared with rootshed.com. “I hope my music will elevate awareness for the Red Kettle Campaign, and in the end, help provide a warm meal, clothing or a bed for someone this holiday season.”
This year marks the 16th year the Dallas Cowboys have helped The Salvation Army launch the campaign, which began on a San Francisco pier in 1891. Moreover, according to organizers, Chesney’s Thanksgiving Day performance will help raise awareness and millions of dollars for the Red Kettle Campaign, which collected a record $147.6 million last year to support people in need, including those still experiencing the lasting impact of Hurricane Sandy this holiday season.
Word has it that 2012 CMA winner Chesney will perform a number of his top hits from past albums, as well as his most recent studio album, “Welcome to the Fishbowl,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. Since its release in June 2012, the disc has been certified gold and includes the hit singles “Feel Like a Rock Star,” “Come Over” and its current hit, “El Cerrito Place.”
The 2012 Red Kettle Campaign will bring The Salvation Armys iconic kettles and 25,000 bell ringers to street corners and storefronts nationwide through Dec. 24. Supporters of The Salvation Army can also ring a virtual Red Kettle bell online at www.onlineredkettle.org, donate by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY or text the word GIVE to 80888 to make a $10 donation to the Red Kettle Campaign.
