Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons has returned to Cincinnati for an 11-day engagement at the Aronoff. I saw the show on Thursday, November 29, which was the second night of the show’s run in Cincinnati.
One of the show’s highlights was the performance of Northern Kentucky local and Jersey Boys’ cast member John Gardiner, who plays Tommy DeVito in the production. He certainly has made his hometown proud by starring in the show this season.
This 2006 Tony Award Winning Best Musical about Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons, features one of New Jersey’s finest musical acts – comprised of Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. This award-winning musical shares the story of how Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. The show has an upbeat, fast-paced story line that incorporates many of the groups best-loved songs, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” among others.
As the Two Acts progress, the Jersey Boys give audiences a look at some of the most memorable moments of their career, from the group’s humble beginnings to their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1990. The story unfolds and reveals how the group was able to achieve success, in spite of some of the various challenges the group and its members encountered along the way, such as loss of loved ones, financial hardships, drugs and adultery.
Music lovers have an opportunity to experience the group’s journey firsthand through the Jersey Boys strong narration and musical numbers as well as the dramatic presentations from each of the cast members.
Audiences members seemed to enjoy the production as demonstrated by the loud applause and favorable song recognition throughout the show. Songs like “Walk Like a Man,” “Earth Angel,” “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Rag Doll,” and Working My Way Back to You,” were among some of their favorites.
