If a trip to the theater is part of your holiday traditions, it’s a great year to take the whole family to see the productions at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts and the Dunham Arts Center, starting this weekend and continuing through the first weeks of December.
At the Covedale, a Christmas-themed production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella provides beautiful music, sets, and costumes. It’s a holiday romance that starts at the Prince’s Christmas Ball, when Cinderella loses that sparkling slipper. The Rodgers & Hammerstein musical features many well-known songs, including”The Prince Is Giving a Ball,” “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and many more.
The production is directed by the Covedale’s artistic director, Tim Perrino, with music director Steve Goers, choreographer Karie-Lee Sutherland, and stage manager Ashley Bowman assisting. The cast includes Jonathan Zeng as the Prince, Katie Hamilton-Meier as Cinderella, Eileen Earnest as the Fairy Godmother, and Josh Steele as the Stepmother, along with a large ensemble chorus.
Performances run from Thursday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, with 8:00 p.m. performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 2:00 p.m performances on Sundays and on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Dec. 22. Audio Descriptive Services will be available at the Saturday, Dec. 1, 8:00 p.m. show.
Tickets are $23 for Adults and $20 for Students/Seniors. Call the box office at 513-241-6550 or purchase tickets online. For more information about the production, visit the Covedale Center’s website.
At the newly reopened Arts Center at Dunham, the Sunset Players’ annual children’s workshop production this year is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of the Black Forest, written by June Walker Rogers and directed by Trisha Myers. The Sunset Players have been a mainstay of west side theatre for more than thirty years, and for two decades, their holiday workshop productions have given children and adults who are new to theater the opportunity to experience acting, directing, and the technical aspects of live theatre.
