The class of 2017 was announced as seven players signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Six of those players will be from the Minnesota High School league and one from Illinois.
Coach Frost seems to be reloading every year and this year’s class is no different. All of the recruits have played or worked with the USA programs in some way, and a lot of them did play on the U-18 team. Let’s look at the players:
Kate Schipper, Forward, Breck- Schipper is a two year member of the USA U-18 team and is currently on the Breck High School team. Kate leads her team in goals (8) and points (22). Breck is currently ranked fifth in the state according to Let’s Play Hockey Magazine rankings.
Megan Wolfe, Forward, Eagan- Megan has played with Eagan since she was an eighth-grader. She leads her team this year in goals(16) and points(26) thru 11 games this year. She will be on the 2013 USA U-18 team when they play in the IIHF Worlds.
Dani Cameranesi, Forward, Blake- Dani will also be playing with the previous two forwards at the IIHF World’s in Finland at the end of December thru January 5th. She is leading Blake is scoring currently thru 12 games with 26 goals and 41 points. She is second in the entire state in scoring behind Red Wing’s Nicole Schammel. Her Blake Bears are also ranked number two in the state in class A.
Kate Flug, Forward, Roseville Area- Kate was a teammate of current Gopher Lee Stecklein last year and helped her team get to the title game in last year’s class AA State Tournament. She was on the 2012 USA U-18 team that won a silver at the World Championships. She currently leads her team with 16 goals and 29 points.
Kelsey Cline, Defense, Bloomington Jefferson- She is not in the recent mold of Gopher defenseman, standing only 5-6, but brings plenty of talent to the table. She has played varisty for five years now and has led her team in scoring the past two seasons. She currently leads her team in goals(11) and points(21) and has the Jags off to a fast start(10-2). Bloomington Jefferson is currently ranked 19th in class AA. She has also been in two USA developmental camps.
Paige Haley, Defense, Red Wing- Haley is a five year player on varsity with the Red Wing Wingers. She has already helped her team to three State appearances since 2009. She currently has her team at third in the state in class A and has 11 goals and 33 points in her 14 games so far this year.
Sidney Peters, Goaltender, Chicago Mission/North American Hockey Academy- Sidney will also be on the 2012-13 IIHF U-18 team and was on the U-18 when they came to Blaine, MN for a three game series against Canada. Peters is the tallest of the bunch for the Minnesota recruits at 5-10.
There will be plenty of chances to see these girls play, and you can get a feel for them yourself.
