Ian Somerhalder is handsome, dark, sexy, philanthropic and successful. It is no wonder a large chunk of the “Fifty Shades” fandom has pegged him as the ideal Christian Grey. This week he is proving that even with some of the hype slowing down, he remains the favorite for the role. As of November 17 a Wiki poll has Somerhalder in the top spot, touting over 500 votes in the past 24 hours and leading Matt Bomer by over 700 votes.
The 33 year old Louisiana native was recently included in People Magazines “Sexiest Man Alive” issue where he was recognized for giving back to his community. The young star, in the wake of the BP oil spill, founded a charitable organization, ISF, which is dedicated to “empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.” Christian Grey is also known for his philanthropic efforts to fight world hunger. Ian Somerhalder has the dark expressions of a tortured man like Christian while also revealing a caring and compassionate side.
Ian Somerhalder is best known for his character Damon on “The Vampire Diaries”. The star and his show’s production team are vying for him to get the part in “Fifty Shades”. The writer’s have referenced the red room of pain, a critical element in the novels, in a recent episode of “The Vampire Diaries”. While Somerhalder himself has admitted to wanting the role and went as far as slipping to fans that he had a meeting with people from the “Fifty Shades” film team. Author E L James confessed to loving the TV show, making fans wonder if that was her way of coyly saying she had Ian in mind for the role.
Fans of Ian Somerhalder for Christian Grey flood the “Fifty Shades” fan sites. One deeply devoted fan tweets daily pulling for Ian Somerhalder with feeds like, “I can picture only IAN to be Grey!” Facebook also has plenty of Somerhalder for Grey fan pages. One page, Ian for Grey has close to 5,000 likes and posts pictures daily, calling Ian “male perfection indeed.”
Ian has devoted his time to “The Vampire Diaries” and his charitable reach. The star has left his schedule open, possibly waiting for an opportunity to take on the sought after role of Christian Grey. His most recent project titled “Time Framed” filmed on November 10 with Ian tweeting “On Top of the world shooting Time Framed with @SinFactoryMedia.” Wetpaint reported that “Ian described the series as a James Bond/Jason Bourne-type who fights for the environment.”
