The Indian system of Education is vast and hence, at times students find it very difficult to cope up with too many subjects and too many applications. Probably this could be one of the reasons why there are so many unfortunate suicidal cases or even drop outs among our student fraternity. How could this problem be solved?
Well, to begin with being a teacher myself, there have been some interesting observations that I have made while teaching. Most of the time students concentrate on rote learning and mugging up, at times without even understanding the lesson. Hence, while doing so, when the time comes to appear for the written test they fail to produce the required content that the questions demand. This leads to scoring fewer marks and by not being able to except this defeat certain children take to harmful tendencies.
In order to direct the students in a proper channel and guide them to get the deserving marks, the first thing that the teachers and the parents may insist upon is to practice writing out answers instead of mugging up or merely just leading the book.
Reading the chapters is important, but at the same time writing out answers or brain storming of points is equally essential as a part of the learning procedure of school students. Given below are some of the simple ways in which the students can remember the lessons well through the different writing techniques:
- Writing out answers: This is the most common way in which students will remember and understand the lesson better. After completing a lesson, the students must try to select a few difficult questions from the back of the lesson and write out the answers. They may even try to solve without referring to the book and after that they might check the answers from the lesson. This method will help the kids to skim and scan through the lesson for the required information and hence, they will remember the points well.
- Brainstorming: This means quick jotting down of important points from the lesson. After reading a particular section from the lesson, the student can do a quick jot down of the relevant points, without looking at the book. This method helps to recall and restore the information in the mind of the students.
- Solving Question Bank and Test Papers: This method is generally applicable during the time of examination. After completing all the lessons, the students must try to solve as many test papers as possible. This would help him to gain the required speed and it would also help to understand and be comfortable with the question pattern.
Students need to give a try with to these methods as without writing, no matter how easy the lesson may read, it might be difficult tome remember each and every point.
