The “Shop Local Saturday” event in West Price Hill on Saturday, November 24, was a successful promotion that saw a lot of traffic at stores and restaurants along Glenway Avenue, including Rockin’ Rooster Comic Books and Games, Ferguson’s Antique Mall, and Don’s Hobby Shop. Getting people thinking about shopping at smaller and locally owned establishments this holiday season has led Price Hill Will to promote a second event this Saturday, December 1, in conjunction with their eighth annual celebration of “Holiday on the Hill.”
There will be a Cash Mob event on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Happy Days Café, 3642 Warsaw Avenue, at St. Lawrence Corner. Come in and try Johnny Kokaliares’ burgers or Greek spaghetti (it tastes a little like Cincinnati chili, imagine that), or a milkshake or sundae or one of the many other offerings on the diner’s menu. Just spend a little money locally (cash is suggested) to be a part of Saturday’s Cash Mob. It’s a way to support a small business in a struggling business district of Price Hill and enjoy a great meal, too.
While you are there, stop next door at the Price Hill Historical Society from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for their annual holiday Open House. You can purchase their books of local history or a membership as a gift for a family member or for yourself, and they also are having a “Garage Sale of History,” with lots of interesting and unique items for sale, including a large collection of new, used, and vintage cookbooks.
Holiday on the Hill continues all over Price Hill, with musical performances at the Shaepper Center at Elder High School and an arts and crafts show at Seton High School. Activities begin on Friday, November 30, with the official lighting of the Price Hill Christmas Tree on the lawn of Seton High School at 6:00 p.m. and a MyCincinnati orchestra concert at 6:30 p.m. at Seton. Hot chocolate, cookies, and crafts will be available. Then, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., “Illuminating the Arts in Price Hill” will feature an arts gallery walk at the Warsaw Project Gallery on Warsaw Avenue near Hawthorne and the Flats Gallery on Hawthorne at Price Avenue. Just across the street at the Corner BLOC Coffeehouse, Price Hill authors will be signing and selling books, another great place to do some local holiday shopping.
No need to make a trip to the mall—save some gas and support your local community by planning to do your holiday shopping in Price Hill this weekend. Visit the Price Hill Will website for more details about all these events.
