The holidays are upon us, and shoppers are scrambling to find unique and fun gifts.
Throughout the year, we have been testing samples of travel related merchandise from various companies that have sent us products for review. Following is a list of the items we liked – some are quite unique.
Ladies Travel Kit by Ragalta:
Judy found this item to be particularly useful. The Regalta Ladies Travel Kit has a good assortment of necessary beauty care products including a 9-in-1 trimmer with guide combs and an interchangeable head.
There’s also a just-right-for-travel 1200W blow dryer, and a mini hair straightener (a really handy item). Clips, combs and a carrying bag are also part of the ensemble. There are thirteen pieces in all that make this the ultimate travel kit.
The Regalta people have thought of everything. This is a two-thumbs up product that will be appreciated by all the traveling ladies. Click on ‘Ladies Travel Kit’ above for more information.
ROUTE 66, the Complete TV Series by Shout!Factory
Yes, bring your portable DVD player and watch all 116 episodes of the famous TV show ROUTE 66 while you travel. The complete series is available as a 24-DVD box set from Shout!Factory. The 1960s show starring Martin Milner, George Maharis and later Glenn Corbett boasts exciting adventures shared by a pair of good buddies as they drove their Corvette convertible across the country on Route 66.
The series featured and introduced many known stars including Barbara Eden, Buster Keaton, Boris Karloff, Burt Reynolds, Cloris Leachman, Ed Asner, James Caan, Joan Crawford, Julie Newmar, Lee Marvin, Leslie Nielsen, Martin Sheen, Peter Lorre, Robert Duvall, Robert Redford, Rod Steiger, Ron Howard, Suzanne Pleshette, Walter Matthau – you get the picture.
We haven’t finished watching all the episodes, but those we have viewed bring back many memories! Click on the title above for information on how to own the complete set. A great gift for Corvette fans and old TV show buffs!
Travel Sandals by Orthaheel
We are very pleased with our Orthaheel Sandals. We wore them all summer and they proved to be as advertised – comfortable for travel and a help in restoring the foot’s natural alignment.
We learned from a fellow traveler who suffered from plantar fasciitis that Orthaheel sandals and shoes are approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association.
The sandals wear like iron and still look as good as the day we began testing them. More good news is that Orthaheel is expanding its line into other styles of footwear. For more technical information and photos of the Orthaheel product line, check them out *here*
The GoPilot by Kolter Enterprises
The name is somewhat misleading. This is not something you will need for airline travel. However, under the right circumstances, this product might come in very handy in your RV or automobile. We have not had the occasion to use our sample, but it looks, well, adequate.
The GoPilot is a portable handheld urinal. Contemplate being stuck in morning traffic with no opportunity to eliminate two or more cups of breakfast coffee – oh, the pain, relief at any price!
This product should work especially well for people with jittery kids. It is also perfect for truckers, boaters, campers, private pilots, and anyone on family road trips.
The GoPilot is a one-quart lightweight plastic container with an accordion neck that can be adapted for male or female parts. It comes in a plain cloth bag that makes storage under a car seat easy – and the bag makes a great privacy screen.
Looks to be everything it promises – safe, discreet, and tidy. Perhaps a pre-Christmas gift to a loved one before the drive to grandmas?
The GoPilot is available from the manufacturer *here*. It is also available from Amazon. Be sure to view the informative video in this article.
Waist Pack by iSafe
Sometimes when we travel to unfamiliar cities and places, we feel insecure. Wouldn’t it be great to have a portable alarm to ward off unwanted animal and human pests? Well, this is the product for you.
We replaced one of our standard fanny packs with the Waist Pack by iSafe. It is literally a blast.
This is the first and only fanny pack that features a lightweight, battery-powered audible and visible alarm system that, when activated, sends a distress signal that will attract immediate attention – and we mean immediate! We have tested the alarm, and it is audible for a sufficient distance both in a crowd and in a dark alley. At the very least, it will scare hell out of persistent dogs or pan handlers. It would also be useful for someone with a medical condition and having a problem – lift a small Velcro flap and pull the activation pin that sets off a very audible alarm and flashing lights.
iSafe products come in a variety of bag types including backpacks, laptop bags and what we tested, waistpacks. We think this is a simply marvelous invention! Get more information about the company and products *here*
Hydro Blast razor by Schick
We took our sample of the Hydro Blast razor on a trip to the mountains. Smooth! The technology really works. The R&D team applied men’s insights and opinions on ergonomics, grip, appearance and many other factors to develop the Schick Hydro™ handle. The result is an extremely comfortable, ergonomically effective handle for your shave. Available everywhere razor products are sold.

Across the Savage Sea by Maud Fontenoy
We read this exciting story while on a cruise. As we watched the waves far below our balcony, we could only imagine what it would be like to be rowing out there on that vast ocean.
That is exactly what this adventure book is about – the first woman to row across the North Atlantic. She was 25 years old and it took her 117 days. Imagine!
Read it, if only to discover what one person is capable of accomplishing with courage and determination. The book is available from Arcade Publishing, just click on the title above.

Here’s a good little reference book for those travelers that dine out on a budget.
The writer is the co-founder of Dining Out magazine, and in this handy guide, he samples the menus of 30 of America’s favorite chain restaurants such as Applebee’s, Chili’s, Cracker Barrel, and Outback Steakhouse.
This is also a nice gift for the health conscious eater on your list. Josh does a comparison of low-calorie and vegetarian type alternatives for diners with special considerations. The book is available from the publisher by clicking on the title above.
