Sometimes you take a step back and scratch your head wondering what this world has come to and what is wrong with people. Have we really lost so much of our connection with Mother Earth and our own souls that we are mean and hateful to each other with out cause or reason? On Wednesday, December 19, 2012 a young man from our area died and the family is blaming a cruel hoax. Surely, this is not how the Gods, Goddesses, Spirits and so on would want us to treat a terminally person.
The family of Thomas Doty is devastated and had already been through so much with a terminally ill son and a house in foreclosure and then they got a glimmer of hope. There was a treatment for Thomas’s Osteosarcoma bone cancer that would cost nearly $50,000. In September of this year Jonathan Hillstrand, from the show Deadliest Catch, stepped in to help and looked to fans of the show to help raise money for Thomas’s treatment. Shortly after that his Mother received an email that would change the families out look and possibly save the young mans life.
The family received an email from a woman promising $250,000. Not only would that get Thomas the treatment that he needed but it would also help pull the families home out of foreclosure. Tiffany, Thomas’s Mother said “I’m so sorry for what your going through and did you tell Thomas the wire is on the way?” Everything felt like it was turning around and Thomas’s condition began to improve.
Sadly, after eight weeks of back and forth conversations with the donor, countless stories and reassurances that the money was being sent, the money never came. The eight weeks was time that Thomas could have spent receiving the life saving treatment. Instead, he began slowly slipping away as each promise fell through and Thomas was experiencing the loss of his own life slowly slipping away from him at every moment.
On Wednesday, Thomas let go. His Mother has said “I honestly 100 percent believe my son would be here if that time had not been wasted.” Now the family is left with memories of Thomas who loved life and wanted nothing more than to have the chance to live it. The family has contacted an attorney who says if he can track this person down, he will take her to court for intentional infliction of emotional distress.
More disturbing is the fact that the family is now receiving harassment from the woman who had promised the life saving and life changing donation. The family will contact police after they have laid their son to rest. Thomas Doty’s funeral will be held today (December 22, 2012) at the Christian Faith Center at 12:30 p.m. in Federal Way.
At this time the family needs all the support, love and comfort they can get. Surely they will be receiving a great deal of this support from their Christian network, but we Pagan’s can send them our positive thoughts and love as well. Our best hope for the family at this point is that heal from this quickly. As for the woman who played this cruel joke on Thomas that may have cost him his life, the Pagan knowledge of what you put out comes back to you times 3 is all that we need in order to know.
