Guess what, this Friday night James Bond is back and hotter than ever, as he shakes’ us up and stirs us around in ‘Skyfall’. It’s the latest, smartest, edgiest and most psychologically gripping of all the Bond epics ever made. Yes, ‘Daniel Craig’s’ 007 is back in’ Skyfall’ and he’s better and badder than ever.
Things have changed a litle bit, providing the comedy, we meet a geeky messy-haired techy who greets 007 claiming to be the new Q, the Mr. Gadget of all those hidden weapons that have gotten Bond out of all those tight spots over the past 50 years. He hands James the usual elegant leather case. But this time it appears, mystifyingly, to be … merely a leather case. Inside is a gun. And that’s it. “Not exactly Christmas, is it?” Bond stares at young agent Q , looking like a honeymoon groom who didn’t get his happy ending delight. “What were you expecting,” asks the baby Q with an deadpan expression, “an exploding pen? Sorry, we don’t do that anymore.”“Not exactly the Christmas present you were expecting ah Bond?”
Skyfall features ‘Daniel Craig’s’ third performance as James Bond, and ‘Javier Bardem’ as Raoul Silva, the film’s villain. And also stars: ‘Naomie Harris’, along with classic iconic actors’ ‘Judi Dench’, ‘Ralph Fiennes’, ‘Ben Whishaw’, ‘Bérénice Marlohe’, ‘Albert Finney’. In this action epic, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Bond investigates an attack on MI6; it transpires that it is part of an attack on M by former MI6 operative, Raoul Silva. MI6 agents , James Bond and Eve assist on a mission in Turkey to recover a computer hard drive stolen from a murdered MI6 agent that contains details of almost all undercover NATO agents in terrorist organisations. Bond and Eve chase the killer, mercenary Patrice, and attempt to recover the disk.
During the chase, Bond’s shot in the shoulder, accidentally shot by Eve and is later considered “missing, presumed killed”. Bond, having used his supposed death to retire, learns of the attack and returns to London. Shrapnel taken from his earlier shoulder wound helps identify Patrice, and Bond tracks the mercenary to Shanghai. Bond finds a gambling chip which leads him to a casino, of course, the story line wouldn’t be complete without hot European women and shaken but un-stirred martinis.
This films the return of two recurring characters Q, played by ‘Ben Whishaw’, and Miss Moneypenny, played by ‘Naomie Harris’. Skyfalls the last film of the series for ‘Judi Dench’ who played M; a role which she had played in the previous six films. The position is subsequently filled by ‘Ralph Fiennes’ ‘character, Gareth Mallory.
Daniel Craig’s is still the classic Bond we remember, although six years on from Casino Royale he had become something more than a just wity stallion. There’s a warmth to his banter with pretty field agent, Bond Girl, Eve (Naomie Harris), the sexual one-liners make for a predictable return, and we even learn about the loss of Bond’s parents: the must-have back story for this season’s conflicted superhero.
