Reservations are going fast but Clevelanders can still have time to experience a Victorian Christmas celebration inspired by British author Charles Dickens at the historical Ohio Village in Columbus, Ohio at their multiple Dickens of a Christmas holiday events. It is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland to Columbus.
Dickens of a Christmas Each Christmas season, Ohio Villages transforms itself into a Victorian village filled with crafts, decorations and traditions of the Victorian era with activities like caroling, cooking demonstrations, craft and artisan demonstrations and samplings of foods of that time period — all inspired by Dickens’ vision of the holiday season.
Special Historical Note: Charles Dickens actually visited Ohio in 1842 just about the time he published the classic Christmas tale, “A Christmas Carol”.
As visitors stroll the historic Village, they will encounter a variety of 19th century costumed characters as well as St. Nicholas and “Charles Dickens” himself.
Dickens of a Christmas is being offered on December 7, 8, 14, 15 and 16. Hours are 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and noon – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults and $9 for youth (6-12). Parking is free.
Holiday Dining Events at Ohio Village All dining events require advance registration. Offered on Thursday, December 13 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., Dinner with Lord and Lady Snobgrass features a fun, frivolous and farcical holiday dinner where the Snobgrasses share their traditions and opinions. The event takes place at the American House Hotel and cost is $60 per person. Call 800-686-1541 for reservations.
Also being offered is a Dickens of a Dinner where guests will enjoy a holiday feast at the American House Hotel while being entertained by the Ohio Village Singers as they perform Christmas carols. Guests will also be able to enjoy all the festivities of a Dickens of a Christmas celebration in the Village until 9 p.m. The dinner is from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.. Ohio Village is also offering a Christmas Buffet being held at the American House Hotel on Sunday, December 16 (with seatings at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.). Guests will enjoy the buffet and entertainment by the Ohio Village Singers in addition to all the activities at the Dickens of a Christmas celebration in the Village. Cost is $44 for adults and $21.95 for ages 6-12. Reservations are required.
