With the New Year just around the corner, and knowing what 2012 brought in new restrictions to Americans, what’s next? We already know that the feds, state governments and yes, even local governments have no qualms about tightening their grip on our freedoms. All we need to do is to consider what the DHS, the TSA and the NSA have already done with their restrictions on what you may, and may not bring onto an airliner.
My thoughts on new restrictions:
The DHS: (Department of Homeland Security) We already know much of what they have done but many folks don’t know that the DHS is attempting to grab more authority and approval for such authority from Congress. We will see more of their activities on highways throughout the country.
- Within the past year or so, the DHS has begun using side scanning x-ray (backscatter x-ray) equipment mounted in trucks to see who and what is inside! Yes, there hasn’t been much activity as of yet, but they are working on more of it.
- This year they announced that they are seeking thousands of UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) so they can spy on the public. This might include dozens of different public events that may be attended by thousands of people who have not committed a crime.
The TSA: (Transportation Security Administration) The TSA will continue to use every trick they have in their bag to make life even more miserable for you when you travel by plane. There will continue to be more (unnecessary) arrests and detainments because of the lack of training for the agents by the TSA. Recently, the TSA has been accused of harassment, theft, and has caused one rape victim to be hospitalized because of their intrusive pat-down.
- It seems that the TSA is on a mission to make your trip to anywhere, so difficult that you no longer want to travel. This writer believes that their idea is that the fewer people traveling, the easier their job is.
Christian Persecution: Groups like the ACLU, American’s United (for the separation of church & state), along with the Freedom From Religion Foundation will increase their efforts to squelch religious freedoms in America. That said, without knowing it (or so it would seem), Congress is doing its fair share to stifle religious freedoms in America.
More schools will tell their students that they may not have a Bible in their possession on school property or that they may not have prayer meetings on school property. More students will be told that they may not use the name of “Jesus” or “Christ” in a school play. And even more will be told that they may not sing Christian songs in the auditorium! This is just the beginning of what will be much more restrictive efforts by the education departments in America.
The Police: The police in America are between a rock and a hard place. Everyone knows that without police, there would be anarchy in the streets. That said, there have been way too many cases of abuse of police powers. These abuses have ranged from being told that a person may not photograph a passing train, which was corrected by the department, to a real live (public) body cavity search by cops on a public highway.
Yes, we need cops, and there are good cops and some bad ones. It is sad to say that the bad cops make a bad name even for the good cops.
However, there will be more violations of your Civil Rights by police departments across the country in 2013. That we can say is a given, but we should probably expect even larger violations of our rights by these people we pay to protect us.
That is just a few of the things that I see coming up in the future (2013) for America. It’s nothing new, but growing! Keep paying attention to the news, and eventually over the next few months you will see what I mean.
