Recently, a gun was found in a teddy bear box meant as a Christmas gift. A Harlem woman, who picked up donated presents at a SoHo church, gave them to her six foster children. Shockingly, one of them contained a pistol inside a wrapped “mama and baby” teddy bear set. Luckily, the mystery gun was not in working condition.
According to a Dec. 27 New York Post report, Sheeba Anderson, 42, picked up a few pre-wrapped gifts from nearby St. Anthony’s Church, where the gun in the teddy bear package was donated.

The church receives gifts from anonymous donors for distribution to foster kids. However, no one could have expected what happened next.
Anderson said she picked up the gifts last Thursday and waited to hand them out on Christmas Day.
As Anderson explains, while she watched another child open their gift, she saw her 8-year-old daughter grab what looked like a gun (pictured here).
“I heard her say, ‘Look, Miss Sheeba, I found a gun!’ She was waving it around and playing with it. This is something you never expect on Christmas. I feel like we narrowly avoided what could have been a terrible disaster.”
Anderson immediately took the gun away from the child and made sure it was safe. Shocked by finding a gun inside a teddy bear box, she inspected the remaining gifts to make sure there were no more surprises.
“Who knows what else was going on with this bear? It could have had drugs or needles or anything else in there. This is the last thing I would have expected. Security has to be improved. These are anonymous donations. They could have come from anywhere and anyone,” Anderson added.
The startled mom of six foster kids called police about the incident. Once authorities arrived, they secured the mystery weapon. Additionally, they said no serial numbers were on the gun, which had its firing pin removed.
Reportedly, the gifts were donated from a non-profit agency that was approved by the Administration for Children Services (ACS), which released this statement:
“We are concerned when any potential risk in a foster home comes to our attention, and are working to ensure that all of the children in the home remain safe.”
Obviously, with the debate on gun control renewed in the wake of the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Conn., a gun inside a teddy bear is unsettling.
The fact that a sacred institution and children are involved is doubly disturbing.
