Plus-size fashion is a division of rootshed.com that provides focus on curvy divas in the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex. In addition, Plus-size fashion division also showcases businesses in Dallas that caters to curvy girls. As a plus size diva, I must admit I never wanted to be in front of the camera until I met photographer Elaine Dacres, owner of Jamerican Designs. Elaine is great at giving directions to her clients to show their greatest assets. On a personal level, I feel it’s important to know how to take great pictures every time without worrying about whether my neck is too short or if my arms will look too flabby. This week we interviewed photographer Umoja Shanu Turner of Mojo Q photography to get some tips on what works for plus-size women in front of the camera.
What do you like about working with plus size clients?
I love the spirit of all models who have confidence, are fun (but serious about their work) and are willing to take directions from the photographer. The plus-size models who I have photographed have all been this and more.
What are some great tips for plus-size women that may feel short during a photo shoot?
I simply suggest that they create more distance between their body and their limbs and keep their body at a slight angle to the camera. These two simple techniques will make them look taller and longer.
What is your future goal in regards to working with plus size women?
My goals are to create more beautiful, creative, and thought provoking images with more plus size models. There is a strength in our plus-size models that I am driven to capture.
I always struggle with bright colors when I take pictures, what are some colors that you would NOT recommend for plus size women during a photo shoot?
There are no colors that are off limit to our plus-size models. Why should they be given limitations? I suggest to all woman to wear colors that compliments their attributes.
Mojo Q Photography is on of Dallas’ popular photographers because Umoja Shanu Turner has an eye for his profession. Mojo Q Photography is not only a first choice of several business owners in the Dallas metroplex, but Umoja’s work was recently featured in for a local magazine to promote breast cancer awareness.
Do you agree or disagree with Umoja Shanu Turner’s advice?
