For the first time since the 2007-2008 season, Montana returns all five starting players from last year’s team. And, last year they won 25 of their 30 games and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Montana only lost one player off last year’s roster as well.
The starters we are talking about are seniors Katie Baker, Kenzie De Boer, Alyssa Smith and juniors Torry Hill and Jordan Sullivan. They started every game last season, each averaged more than 25 minutes per game and were five of the six leading scorers.
Key returning reserves are senior Alexandra Hurley and sophomores Kellie Cole, Maggie Rickman and Carly Selvig.
In addition to the five players mentioned above, the Lady Griz has two more returning scholarship players in sophomore Haley Vining and red shirt freshman Hannah Doran. In a switch of circumstances, Doran will play this year but Vining will red shirt the 2012-13 season because last year she unknowingly played last season with an ACL tear. Doran will be recuperating this year with the goal of returning to play healthy for the next three years.
Filling out the last four of Montana’s allowable 15 scholarship players are Shanae Gilham of Bozeman, Mont., Molly Klinker of Fairfield, Mont., DJ Reinhardt of Missoula, Mont., and Rachel Staudacher of Bothell, Wash.
Selvig also added guard McCalle Feller, of Lewistown, Mont. to the roster. She will be a non-scholarship player her first season. Feller, a three-time Class A high jump champion for Fergus High and the state javelin champion as a senior, will be a two sport athlete. She will also compete for the Griz track and field team during its outdoor season.
