The Gwinnett Gladiators have won 13 of their last 15 games and will be trying to keep the hot streak going when they host the Fort Wayne Komets at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in a pair of games this week. The clubs will play the first game Wednesday night, with the second contest coming Friday.
These will be the first meetings between the two teams at the Arena at Gwinnett Center this season, however the clubs split a pair of games in Fort Wayne back in October. The Gladiators won 4-2 on October 26th but dropped a 1-0 decision to the Komets the next night. The Komets are currently fourth in the North Division with a 8-7-0-1 (17 points) in their inaugural ECHL season..
The Glads begin play this week in first place in the ECHL South Division with a 14-4-1-0 record, and also lead the league with 29 points. Gwinnett has been led this season by rookie goalie Mike Lee, who has earned Goalie of the Week honors twice.
Lee is the league leader in GAA (1.69), is second in Save %, as well as being among the league leaders in games played (13), minutes (781), and wins (9). The Coyotes prospect is also tied for the ECHL lead in shutouts with two.
Louis Domingue, another rookie netminder, has also played a big part in the Gladiators strong start. Domingue is 3-1, including his first professional shutout, in four games with Gwinnett this season.
The play between the pipes has kept Gwinnett close in most of their games. Thirteen of the nineteen games the Gladiators have played were decided by one goal already this season, with the Glads posting a 9-3-1-0 record, including nine consecutive wins, in those contests.
Another key to the Glads early season success is their ability to hold on to the lead when they score first. The club has posted a 13-0-1 mark when netting the first goal of the game.
