General Norman Schwarzkopf, the man who led coalition forces that drove Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait in 1991, died Thursday at the age of 78 in Tampa, Florida. Twitchy reported that “Twitter ghouls” marked his death with vile, hateful messages.
“Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf was an old Republican tyrant and he bashed Teddy Kennedy and the Democrats – May Norman burn in hell,” one person wrote. The tweet was deleted, but there were many others to take its place.
“Enjoy hell for all the innocents you killed and the trouble u caused (sic),” another person said.
“Good riddance General Schwarzkopf. F**k anyone that had anything to do with the rape of Iraq,” added another person.
“Norman just Stormed his way into hell,” tweeted “Kerry Jackson.”
“Normally we have something pithy to say about people like this, but there really are no words for this one,” the staff at Twitchy wrote. “Schwarzkopf was a great man who freed the entire nation of Kuwait from bondage and oppression, and he deserves better than this.”
Schwarzkopf, who earned three Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and three Distinguished Service Medals in Vietnam, died at his home in Tampa from complications from pneumonia.
“He lived out a quiet retirement in Tampa, where he’d served his last military assignment and where an elementary school bearing his name is testament to his standing in the community,” Fox News added.
He retired from the Army in 1992 and wrote his best-selling autobiography, “It Doesn’t Take A Hero.”
“I like to say I’m not a hero. I was lucky enough to lead a very successful war,” he said of his role in the Gulf War.
