The need for a great hair stylist is always a must. And if you’ve been to a quality salon, you know the difference between a professional who knows what they are doing versus one who sends you running for the door!
If you are looking for a stylist who is professional, has quality skills, and a strong passion for making your hair care needs their number one goal, Kathryn Holmes is the stylist for you!
Q) What made you want to become a hair stylist?
A) I loved to play dress up as a child. The make-up and hair were my favorite part. When you came to my house, you were getting a makeover!
Q) Where did you study?
A) I started out at Auburn University thinking I wanted to be an accountant. I soon realized numbers were not for me. I always knew I wanted to do hair and with my parents support I looked into schools nearby. Southern Union Community College had a Cosmetology program, so I attended the night program and worked at a salon during the day.
Q) What do you like about being a stylist?
A) I feel like the question should be what do I not like about my job! I have the greatest job in the universe. How many people can say that? I have the most wonderful clients. I am truly blessed.
Q) What do you feel you bring to clients? What do you feel you bring to clients that other stylists do not?
A) I feel that I have a way of helping my clients see themselves in a more positive light. I have fun with all of my clients. As far as what I bring that other stylists do not … I try not to compare myself to other stylists. I think all stylists bring a sense of authenticity and individuality to the table.
Q) What are your favorite products to use on yourself as well as on clients?
A) I love love love Redken’s volumizing products and men’s line, Moroccan Oil light and regular oil, and Pureology’s hydrating conditioner. I use these products on myself as well as my clients. I have to try products on myself first. Then I can see how they work and know whether or not to use them on my clients.
Q) Are there any new products on the market right now that you suggest using?
A) I think Redken is a front runner in new products right now. Redken has been around for years, but has revamped their entire line. All of it is fabulous and affordable!
Q) Are there any products that you feel people should stay away from?
A) I suggest staying away from most grocery store products, such as Garnier Fructis, Pantene, Herbal Essence, et cetera. These products are cheaper, but you get more bang for your buck with salon products. Salon products are more concentrated and last longer, therefore you buy them less often.
Q) Do you do anything else besides being a hair stylist?
A) I do make-up occasionally at the salon, but mainly I just do hair. Being a hair stylist is my number one passion!
