When a sensible person who is prone to sunburn wants to spend the day out in the sun, he will likely apply a coat of sunscreen upon his skin. Skin needs outer protection and topical application is just what the doctor recommends. What the sensible individual does not do is drink an unknown amount of sunscreen and expect his skin prepared for a day’s bombardment of sun exposure.
Pharmaceutical grade fluoride found in many toothpastes and mouthwashes carry a blatant warning on labels which typically read as follows: Do not swallow, if swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison control center. A warning written so severely clear surely means business. Corporations tend not to write on their labels unless required by law or advised to by their legal counsel. Of the ingredients listed, there is typically only one that is active: sodium fluoride. Those who use toothpaste or mouthwash containing fluoride areclearly advised not to ingest the product; not to ingest the fluoride, the only active ingredient listed.
Dental products warn us not to swallow any amount toothpaste or mouthwash without risking the need to seek medical help or the poison control center. Now the fact that the poison control center is even mentioned seems to suggest that if too much of this fluoride containing product is ingested, a person might risk being poisoned and need immediate expert help to deal with fluoride poisoning. The amount necessary to poison a person likely varies depending on body mass and tolerance, but the warning labels are evidence of concern by the makers of these dental products regarding undesirable effects of potentially going beyond a toxic threshold.
Another product quite often bundled fluoride while lacking a warning label is the public water supply. Water fluoridation within the United States first occurred in 1945 in Grand Rapids, MI. Today, 72% of United States municipal water supplies are fluoridated. Quite often, the provider and chemical variety of the fluoride is obscured. Several communities discovered that the fluoride used is not the pharmaceutical grade that the dental products use; instead a very dirty industrial waste substance containing crude unrefined fluoride mixed with a palette of other toxic carcinogens which any living creature would be better off not make a habit of ingesting.
The irony is clear on at least two clear points. First, dental fluoride treatment is not to be ingested into the human digestive system, but applied only topically to the teeth. In similar fashion as the sun-bather applies sunscreen to his skin and does not drink it for protection. Second, that commercially available products clearly warn against the ingestion of any amount of fluoride at the risk of being poisoned. Yet there is no warning on the public water supply nor a suggestion as to the amount of fluoride per water unit, nor mention of other dirty and toxic carcinogens being ingested from the deliberately polluted public water works.
As dental products’ labels suggest, fluoride ingestion can lead to toxic outcomes and alter the chemistry of the body, including the brain. There is a great amount of evidence suggesting we have more to lose from ingesting fluoride than to gain; like a trip to the poison control center. The public water supply ought to be as clean and as pure as possible. If one is so adamant for their own fluoridation, that ought to be for the individual to decide, not the responsibility or justification used by the government to fluoridate the entire populace. Today, we are not just drinking only water, and that is contrary to what most believe.
