As a managing director of a floral design school, I got deeply involved in setting up each course and its curriculum. Among various types of programs my floral school offers, Fresh Flower Arrangement Instructor Course (“Instructor Course”) offers the highest level of curriculum.
The higher level of course they belong to, the more difficult floral designs they learn. This is quite natural as you know. For instance, the type of flower arrangements students learn at Intermediate Course is, of course, different from that they learn at Elementary Course. As students proceed to more advanced course, they learn higher level of design skills and decoration techniques.
By the time students complete Advanced Course, they learn a very wide range of arrangements, design concept and actual decorating techniques reflecting each design concept as well as the secrets of handling flower materials. However they have no opportunities to learn under mentioned things even at Advanced Course:
(1) Floral Color Coordination
(2) Teaching floral designs to students at a classroom.
(3) Procuring flower materials at a flower market.
In order to make floral decoration look better and more attractive, proper way of color coordination among flowers is badly required. Students are given opportunities of learning floral color coordination at Instructor Course.
Regarding above (2) and (3), students can learn at Instructor Course which provides opportunities of experiencing actual instructions at the classroom and also actual procurement of flower materials by visiting a flower market (wholesaler of flowers) together with the instructor. Of course students can learn how to make the under mentioned highest level of flower arrangements besides learning above (1) through (3) at this course.

The curriculum of Fresh Flower Arrangement Instructor Course effective as of November 9, 2012 offers students five day opportunities of doing actual lessons at the classroom. By teaching at the classroom, instructor course students can recognize to what kind of extent their students can understand and what should be done for making improvements in lessons.
Meanwhile procuring flowers at a flower market is totally different from shopping flowers at a regular floral shop in the following sense:
A. Price: Customers can buy flowers at much lower prices than floral shops because flower markets sell flowers at wholesale prices. Usually customers buying at flower markets engage in floral business and they procure bigger quantity of flowers (compared with customers buying at a flower retailers) which makes it payable for a market owner to sell at lower prices.
B. Wide range of flowers: Flower markets have much higher number of customers (than floral shops) who are floral business professionals. And such customers need various types of flowers to sell at their shop. Due to this reason, flower markets must sell a wider range of flowers than florists offer.
C. License: Anybody can buy flowers at a floral shop (flower retailer) without any license. However when it comes to buying at a flower market, buyers must show a license (seller’s permit or resale license). This license is issued by the state authority to a person or entity that resells merchandise (tangible items) to their own customers. By showing this license at a flower market, customers can buy flowers at a wholesale price which allows license holders to make profit by reselling to their own customers.
D. Collection of Sales Tax and Tax Return: As mentioned above, in order to buy at a flower market, buyers must show the license (seller’s permit or resale license) at a market. Not only this but also they need to collect sales tax when selling to their own customers (usually end users of flower materials) and also need to file a sales tax return at least once a year.
California Flower Art Academy offers a WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS among which each student can choose his/her most favorite course depending on his/her taste, needs and experiences.
