While the talented Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder are often the two leads often talked about in terms of Christian Grey casting in the hotly awaited “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, actor Channing Tatum seems to have become the most recent Christian contender as Wet Paint reports this Monday, Nov. 26 that the “Magic Mike” star is now an alleged frontrunner for the role. Henry Cavill of “Man of Steel” was also asked questions about the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film this week in an interview and whether he would want to be cast as Christian Grey.
2012 People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” winner Channing Tatum has been chosen by Wet Paint as a potential lead for the part of Anastasia Steele’s erotic lover in EL James’ bestselling novel’s silver screen adaptation. This isn’t the first time the “Dear John” actor has been mentioned for the role of Christian Grey, either: he admitted that he would be interested in the role over the summer, but only if his wife (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) would be cast as Anastasia Steele.
No doubt that from “Step Up” to “Magic Mike,” the solid Channing Tatum has a wide fan base and experience in front of the camera (as well as with possibly with any sex scenes that will have to be included in the steamy film), which would serve him very well for fans vying for Tatum to get the part of the CEO extraordinare in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. Some fans, however, have voiced an opinion that despite looks and acting ability, the actor simply doesn’t have that “Christian Grey” attitude or dark looks specifically needed for the sexy role.
Henry Cavill, who stars as Superman himself in the upcoming “Man of Steel” film, was in the middle of an interview with Details this week about his movie when asked whether he could be cast as Christian Grey or want the starring lead part in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie.
Smooth as always, Cavill replied:
“Whether that happens, the decision will be made when it has to be made for the part,” he said with smile. “It would be a very different kind of film that ‘Man of Steel.’”
Well, for fans of Henry Cavill as Christian Grey, it certainly wasn’t an outright refusal (and certainly still an open chance for the actor in the future), but it seems the star has his mind on his role as the mighty Superman for now.
Of course, both Channing Tatum and Henry Cavill (as well as other talented actors, from Alexander Skarsgard to Alex Pettyfer) have some serious competition for the casting role of Christian Grey against talented top leads Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder, so we will have to see if People’s 2012 “Sexiest Man Alive” will still be considered a frontrunner by the great “50 Shades” fans in the coming weeks.
