The weather has reached practical perfection in southwest Florida. It’s a wonderful time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and take in some fall festivities. In Florida, that includes hiking trails, picnics, nature walks, biking and festivals.
Pumpkins, arts and crafts, good old fashioned sack races, egg on a spoon relays, and tug of war are all activities you can expect to find at a fall festival. Bounce houses and face painting served alongside cotton candy and kettle corn are the stuff these festivities are made of.
Nature festivals are popular in Florida during this time of year as well. The focus is all about nature and the great outdoors. A nature festival generally centers round all things environmental. You’ll find opportunities to learn about being green, water conservation, landscape and animal demonstrations. A nature festival may include guided walks or wagon rides. Special kid’s areas and educational exhibits are popular at most nature festivals as attendees are encouraged to get in touch with the great outdoors.
Either outing gives families the opportunity to spend the day outside enjoying the cooler weather during the milder fall season in Florida.
In Charlotte County there are a couple of big fall festivals in November; the Charlotte County Fall Festival is held each year at the Tringali Recreation Center, and the Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival is held on the grounds of the Charlotte County Sports Park.
Each participant can gain free entry at the Tringali Fall Festival by bringing a canned good (per person) to donate. Extra fees are charged for some activities, such as the Turkey Shoot where you can win a Thanksgiving Turkey. There are always plenty of food vendors on hand for lunch. The fall celebration takes place at the Recreation Center in Englewood on November 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The same weekend is the Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival annual event where people come from miles around to enjoy the park and trails at Tippecanoe. This year, the Sherriff’s department is hosting a fun run for kids, and walk for adults, on the trails prior to the festival as well as a 5k and a 10 k for runners. Kids will enjoy the large kids play area as well as many land and water animal exhibits. There is something for everyone at this educational and fun event.
There are plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the cooler fall weather and plenty of events and activities to choose from. See the Charlotte Harbor full calendar of events here.
