It’s the perfect time of year to catch the fall colors at the local wineries and vineyards. The grapes have been picked, and the leaves are turning brilliant yellow and red. The cooler weather is perfect for a leisurely weekend drive, or a picnic. There are many opportunities for photography of the vineyards, as they turn their autumn colors.
The wineries and vineyards around Forest Grove are about 30 to 40 miles from Portland via Highway 8. The fall colors have changed the hillsides around the farmland to brilliant yellows against the deep green of the evergreens. There are three listed here, though several other wineries and vineyards are in the Forest Grove area.
David Hill Winery and Vineyard is one of the oldest wineries in Oregon. Its vineyard turns a brilliant yellow in November, depending on the weather. The large maple trees on the property compliment the yellow grapes. The winery is known for its Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Some of their grapes are about a century old.
It is located at 46350 David Hill Road in Forest Grove. The grounds include the vineyard, picnic area, farm house, and tasting room. Tasting room hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Shafer Vineyard Cellars is also in Forest Grove. It sits a little northwest of David Hill Winery and Vineyard. This unique winery is home to Miki’s German Christmas Shop. The shop includes European glass ornaments, hand-painted German music boxes, nut crackers and more. Each item is unique.
The winery is known for its high-quality wines, and affordable prices. Varieties include Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Miki’s Blush – E.B., Holiday Magic and others. Miki’s Blush is considered to be one of the best in Oregon of its kind.
The wine tasting room is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, but may vary slightly in the Christmas Season and winter season. They are located at 6200 N.W. Gales Creek Road in Forest Grove. Their phone number is (503) 357-6604.
The grounds have a quiet eloquence, and down-home feel. There is a picnic area under beautiful oak trees. It’s a great area to have lunch, let the children run around, and explore the beautiful stone gazebo.

Tualatin Estate Vineyard is a small winery in Willamette Valley Vineyards. It is rustic looking from the outside and classic Pacific Northwest on the inside. Wine tasting is offered Fri. to Sun. from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The vineyard offers a picnic area sheltered by trees, which look out over the vineyard. Its sloping hills offer beautiful views of the grapes, and wonderful opportunities for photography. The winery is located at 10850 N.W. Seavey Road in Forest Grove.
