“Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.” George Elliot
Well, Nebraskans, 2012 is coming to a close. We had a beautiful, white, holiday season. Our yards are an endless sea of snow and our breath sits on the bitter cold air. It is a great weekend, before bringing in the New Year, to get cozy on the sofa with a hot cup of cocoa and a good movie, looking out the window on occasion at our winter wonderland.
Tis the season for giving and tis the season to be jolly; so, why not end the year with a jolly good gift. There are many animals at your local shelters in need of a companion. They would love an endless sea of snow to run through and a warm, comfy couch to curl up on.
Meet some of the sweethearts from the Humane Society in Omaha, Nebraska. The Humane Society even does a personality match so that you and your new companion are able to get off on the right foot…uh, or should we say the right ‘paw’? All of the following information is from the Nebraska Humane Society website. Be sure to click on the link after each description for a photo and more information.
Damien is a 2-year old Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix. He has lots of energy and is extremely loving to “his” people. But like many Chihuahuas, he is shy around new people. It may take some time for him to warm up, but once he does, he is the sweetest little dog. He loves to cuddle and would not mind sitting on your lap all day. Because of his shyness, Damien needs a quieter home, likely with no children under twelve years old. He is looking for someone who is patient and willing to let him warm up to his new family. With a little patience and love, you’ll have a lifetime companion who will treat you like you are the most important person in the world. That would be nice to come home to, wouldn’t it? If you have any questions regarding Damien or are interested in adopting him, please contact the foster care department. http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=NEHS.A845034

Betty White participated in the Humane Societies “Home for the Holidays” foster program. A Nebraska Humane Society volunteer took Betty home on Christmas Eve, and she spent that day and Christmas Day with this volunteer. Here’s his report: The response from all of us at home this holiday is “this girl is a sweetheart.” She very much wanted to be part of the family. She’s extremely well mannered, loves affection, and accepts strangers very well. And, by the way, she loves to nap. Betty is house trained. Her manners were excellent. She was very curious of kitchen activity during meal preparation and wanted to be part of it without interfering. She always wanted to be near us, especially the women. She enjoyed laying and sleeping on the fleece dog bed in our family room about ten feet from the fireplace. Betty prefers the company of humans to other dogs. And, as she is a mature girl, she has a bit of stiffness in her gait. In short, this is a perfect companion dog. She is quiet, well-mannered, sociable, loving, and well-behaved. She would love a family of her own. She would probably do best in a home without a lot of stairs. (And my wife, by the way, thinks Betty looks like a “Simone.”) http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=NEHS.A858029
