Thursday, a JC Penney commercial starring comedian Ellen DeGeneres angered some people because the commercial pokes fun at short people, or in this case…elves. The ad is for JC Penney and it stars comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres sitting at a table with three of Santa’s elves. She looks large in comparison to the elves, and she asks them to produce more toys for a JC Penney contest, and accidentally makes several short jokes.
In the ad, Ellen DeGeneres says:
I know this is no small feat.
Well, it’s a big deal.
Who wants a cookie?
The elves slightly grimace after the first two statements, but Ellen moves on.
One group in particular took issue with this commercial. One Million Moms issued this statement:
Since April, JC Penney’s has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now. A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets.
Many viewers of the Ellen DeGeneres ad stated that they don’t understand what is wrong with this JC Penney ad.
In February, One Million Moms, asked shoppers to call JC Penney and ask them to replace DeGeneres as a spokeswoman. It sounds as if they have more of a problem with Ellen DeGeneres herself.
