Today we’re looking at the Elago G6 Leather Flip Case for Galaxy Note 2 in orange.
This is a case we’ve come to recognize with the note 2; it’s a horizontal flip case that should be standard on all phones. This type of case simply provides basic screen protection without adding bulk. Speaking of screens, the elago g6 cases come fully loaded with a screen protector, microfiber cloth, and a promo code for your next purchase. All this wrapped in some pretty clean and modern packaging. I received the orange and white case but they offer three color options including black and blue next to the already mentioned orange. I personally love the contrast of the deep rich orange next to the stark clean vibrant white.
As for as using the case day to day, I personally like a little more functionality in my flip cases. A couple credit card or business card pockets or a stand functionality. The elago is basic just like the official Samsung flip cover. It does however, offer a polycarbonate shell to actually hold the phone that gives a good deal more protection next to the official samsung case. It has slightly raised edges to protect the screen when lying face down with the cover folded back. All the cutouts match and the bottom and top are mostly left uncovered. This makes sense for the bottom as it allows you to dock in more docking stations with the case attached. It makes no sense on the top though. I’m seeing a trend in cases leaving the top of the phone exposed and it just shows a lack of understanding of the Note 2’s specific needs. The headphone jack can be given a large cutout, but to leave everything exposed is careless.
I have to mention that while the case was sleek and seemingly well made, the flip cover itself was strong in the center, but the edges seemed to be made from thick paper or thin cardboard inside rather than plastic or something stronger. As a result, I received my case with the front faux leather slightly bent and peeling at the top. This could of course be limited to my case and not indicative of Elago as a whole. If you want simplicity, this could be for you, but there are honestly some options for you on places like ebay that can compete with elago. If they are able to fix the cover edge and improve the feel, I can fully recommend the elago g6 flip. At its current price point though, you need to look around before you settle on this case.
Thank you again to Elago for supplying their product for review.
Main advantage: design, polycarbonate molded phone holder
Main concern: Price is a bit high, there’s no indent to account for the note 2’s home button, the cover itself is not strong enough, faux leather was slightly bent and peeling out of box for me
Unique features: Orange color
How much: currently available for $29.99 from elago
Alternatives: many out there on ebay as well as the official samsung flip cover.
Is it worth buying: In it’s current design, I cannot recommend it, with a couple of improvements this would be a great case though.
