Fans are still reeling from the news that former star of The Real Housewives of New York City, Bethenny Frankel, and her husband, Jason Hoppy, have separated. Fans enjoyed watching Bethenny and Jason date, find out they were pregnant, and get engaged during Season 3 of The Real Housewives of New York City. Then they followed Bethenny and Jason’s journey as they got married and welcomed their daughter, Bryn, into the world on Bethenny Getting Married? They continued to watch the couple deal with marriage and Bethenny’s career success on Bethenny Ever After… where they saw that marriage is not always happily ever after. The two were not afraid to show their relationships, warts and all, on the show and the final season of Bethenny Ever After…. showed the two struggle with their relationship, but fans thought that in the end they would make it work because despite their conflicts, they both appeared dedicated to the marriage.
Apparently, dedication can only last so long, because despite Bethenny’s insistence last summer that she had won the fight for her marriage, she announced on December 23, 2012, that the couple had separated, leaving fans wondering, what happened? With Bethenny Ever After finished and Bethenny’s talk show, Bethenny, still waiting for its 2013 premiere date, fans are left to speculate.
Recent reports are that the couple separated at the suggestion of Bethenny’s therapist. Throughout Bethenny Getting Married? and Bethenny Ever After… fans got a glimpse into Bethenny’s therapy sessions with Dr. Xavier Amador. We even got to watch Bethenny and Jason take a couple’s boat trip with Dr. Amador in order to work on their relationship, a trip that would make headlines of its own as the group got lost at sea.
It is unknown whether it was Dr. Amador specifically who recommended that Bethenny and Jason separate or whether Bethenny sees another therapist privately, off screen. Bethenny reportedly was adamant about not separating because she viewed it as giving up on the marriage. Her therapist meanwhile recommended that a trial separation would be good for the couple in order to allow them to have breathing room and see what life without each other would be like.
So maybe there is hope for the couple? Or maybe the trial separation started this past summer. In August, after Bethenny wrapped up her six week trial of her talk show, she decided to take some off and moved to the Hamptons and blissfully did nothing. But did Jason go with her? Rumors are that he stayed in New York City and that the two have been living separate lives. Bethenny has also mentioned in the press that Jason has been taking a lot of golf trips. It is possible that the recent announcement is not the announcement of a trial separation to rebuild the relationship, but an announcement to the public of the separation after the two had a trial separation and decided the relationship could not be mended.
Do you think Bethenny’s therapist was right to suggest a trial separation? Do you think separations can ever lead to reconciliation and a stronger relationship?
