For the first time in almost 40 years, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” will take place without Dick Clark himself.
Clark passed away in April and this year Ryan Seacrest will be hosting the popular New Year’s Eve show without him.
Ryan and Jenny McCarthy will be the hosts this year and are preparing for a fun filled but bittersweet night without the icon there to help count down to the new year.
Since 1907 millions of people have watched as the Times Square Ball drops down, seventy seven feet from the roof of One Times Square to help say goodbye to the old and hello to the new.
Dick Clark took over the job of host in 1975 and helped make the annual broadcast an amazing event. Dick had a stroke in 2005 and Ryan came in to co-host with him in 2006.
Ryan says that while he is sad that Dick will not be there, he takes away some advice that Dick gave him;
“Make it seamless. Make it comfortable. Make it seem like anybody can do that job.”
“It’ll be emotional for us,because he’s not going to be with us for the first time ever.”
The show will pay tribute to the legendary Clark during the broadcast and tons of stars will help him and McCarthy count down to 2013.
Beginning at 8:00 Jenny and Fergie host a two hour celebration of Clark with old pictures, and clips and memories of Dick shared by his many famous friends and fans.
Ryan Seacrest will pay a special tribute during the two hour event.
Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen and Neon trees will join Ryan in New York while Fergie will be in California with Brandy, One Republic, Flo Rida, and Pitbull.
Then at 10:00 there will be over five hours of special musical performances by some of the hottest names in music who will perform and Jenny will be in New York interviewing fans and revelers waiting to count down to 2013.
Last year Jenny had an unforgettable midnight kiss with a New York City policeman that she grabbed and kissed as the ball dropped, will this year find her another special kiss?
“I don’t know who I’m going to smooch with, but I’m going to smooch with somebody!”

Ryan Seacrest said it best when describing the show;
“In a universe and world where there’s so much conflict and so much chaos, that in the few moments that we’re all gathered together, standing in Times Square and watching on TV … you feel like we’re all on the same page,”
Amen Ryan, Amen.
