Going into Tuesday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” result show, the only thing most people agreed on was that Shawn Johnson would probably make it to the finals. Facing a week 9 double elimination, it was anybody’s guess as to who would be leaving when the show ended. When it was all said and done, the remaining male competitors, Apolo Ohno and Emmitt Smith were the ones sent packing. The show aired Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.
The show opened with Apolo and partner Karina Smirnov revisiting their perfect score rumba from Monday night for the judges. After learning Shawn Johnson was going to the finals, viewers were treated to the AT&T Spotlight performance by 21 year old New Zealand native Parris Goebel who performed an amazing hip hop routing to “This Girl Is on Fire.”
The boy band “The Wanted” appeared and sang a compilation of their hits, “I Found You” and “Glad You Came.”
Next Melissa Rycroft and partner Tony Dovolani learned they were safe and Apolo learned he was going home. When asked for his thoughts on the season and his time there, he said, “Everyone who does this show is a champion.”
Macy’s Stars of Dance featured Paula Abdul singing a compilation of four of her hits while dancing a routine she choreographed and called her “Dream Medley.”
Derek Hough and four female dancers performed an incredible piece of modern dance with a rain element toward the end that added a splash of fun.
Kelly Monaco and partner Val Chmerkovskiy were saved and the final competitor, Emmitt Smith and his partner Cheryl Burke were eliminated. Host Tome Bergeron said to Emmitt, “After tonight, this show has lost a good chunk of charisma.”
That leaves, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson heading to next week’s finals. The three stars will dance three routines – their favorite dance, an instant dance and a super-sized freestyle number. Who do you think will be the season 15 “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” champion?
Southern Illinois fans can tune in on ABC’s channel 3 WSIL at 7 p.m. on Monday nights each week for the competition and on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for the results show.
