Tonight’s Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars finale aired at 8:00 p.m. on WISN 12 in Milwaukee and opened with a performance that reunited all the stars and their partners, along with the Troupe, in a dance choreographed by Lacey Schwimmer. They showed behind-the-scenes footage from last night’s show before Len revealed they wanted to see Shawn and Derek’s Freestyle dance one more time in the encore performance. Next up was the ridiculousness that ensues each time Kenny Maine, Jerry Rice, and Len Goodman get together to dissect each of the couples during “Dance Center.”
The finale three couples joined Tom on stage to choose their dance styles for the final Latin Instant Dance round. Kelly and Val chose first and selected the “Cat and Mouse” Jive. Melissa and Tony selected their dance next and ended up with “Life is a Highway” for their Samba. That left Shawn and Derek with the Cha Cha, danced to “Respect.”
While the final three prepared for their Instant Dances, Bristol Palin returned with partner Mark Ballas for one last dance. (Thank goodness). After them came Pamela Anderson and Tristan McManus, accompanied by a herd of men. Helio and Chelsie were up next, after a brief video of their hilarious mis-communications and discussions during rehearsal. Drew and Anna incorporated his daughter into their dance, which she was very excited about.
They showed some of the best and wackiest moments from the Confessional Room before repeating the team freestyle dances from earlier this season. First up was Team Gangnam Style, during which Joey and Kym stepped in for Kelly and Val while they rehearsed backstage.
Brooke went backstage to check in with Kelly and Val to see how their dance was going before Joey and Kym took the floor once more. They did a spoof on Back to the Future, where Joey went back to his 1987 self and gave himself advice before their dance. During the routine, they were joined by two “younger versions” of themselves, who danced right alongside the couple.
They flashed back to all of the crazy moments of the season with new twists and turns, including fusion dances, new dance styles, and trio dances. After that, Sabrina and Louis returned and danced their Rumba from Country Week.
Brooke quickly checked in with Melissa and Tony and asked Melissa if tonight was easy, since they were dancing the Samba again, which she said it was not, as the music is slower. She asked Tony about his game plan for preparing three dances. Afterward, Team Call Me Maybe performed their team freestyle dance, with Helio and Chelsie and Drew and Anna stepping in for the rehearsing finalists. The guys returned once more with their “Dance Center” bit to continue the discussion on this season’s couples. Kirstie and Maks danced next, followed by Gilles and Peta, who danced their Bollywood routine.
Brooke checked in with Shawn and Derek to ask the pressure riding on the Instant Dance. Shawn said they wanted to have fun and enjoy their last dance. Apolo and Karina and Emmitt and Cheryl danced their last dances before one final round of “Dance Center” to discuss the final three couples.
They showed clips of Kelly, Melissa, and Shawn each talking about how much they wanted to win the Mirror Ball Trophy. Then, it was finally time for the Instant Dance round.
Kelly and Val were up first, with their Instant Jive. Naturally, by the end of their dance, Val’s shirt was off. Len said Kelly came out and nailed it and told her it was well done. Bruno said the precious was there, she lost a bit of balance, but it was magnificent. Carrie Ann told them they won the hearts of the audience, as well as Carrie Ann’s. Up in the skybox, the couple dodged more of Brooke’s questions about their potential relationship and said they have unconditional love for each other and are just friends. (Carrie Ann: 9.5/10; Len: 9.5/10; Bruno: 9.5/10; Total: 28.5/30)
Melissa and Tony danced their Instant Samba next. Bruno told Melissa she turned into a South American siren and said she did a great job. Carrie Ann thought Melissa rushed the music a hair and told them they had a stellar season. Len didn’t feel the interpretation was quite as good as last night, but Melissa has been Len’s favorite to watch. (Carrie Ann: 9.5/10; Len: 9.5/10; Bruno: 9.5/10; Total: 28.5/30)
Shawn and Derek were last to dance their Instant Cha Cha. The crowd went absolutely wild after their dance. Carrie Ann told Shawn she started out the season with a star, and there was no better way to end the season than with that star-studded performance. Len said it was fantastic. Bruno said she was going out with a bang – it was perfection. (Carrie Ann: 10/10; Len: 10/10; Bruno: 10/10; Total: 30/30)
Final Judges’ Leaderboard
- Melissa and Tony: 88.5/90
- Kelly and Val: 87.5/90
- Shawn and Derek: 87/90
Then, it was time to eliminate the third place finisher, which Tom and Brooke revealed was Kelly and Val. They received a standing ovation and showed their highlight video from the season.
Finally it was down to last two couples: Shawn and Derek, and Melissa and Tony. After a lengthy pause, Tom and Brooke announced that it was Melissa and Tony who won. The couple was completely shocked and immediately started celebrating. They couldn’t even ask them any questions with the pandemonium that went on in the ballroom. With that, Tom and Brooke bid the audience farewell until next spring.
