It’s been a long journey for “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” finalists Shawn Johnson, Kelly Monaco and Melissa Rycroft but that journey ended on November 27, 2012 with one final dance performed for the judges. This one dance stood between these three All-Stars and the highly coveted, enhanced version of the mirror ball trophy that signified they were the best out of 14 seasons of “DWTS”. So, who was crowned “All-Star” champion of 2012?
Without further ado, Melissa Rycroft and “DWTS” pro partner, Tony Dovolani were announced as the winner of “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars”.
To be honest, at this point the final dances are moot although I will go so far as to say that Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough went out with a bang performing an instant Cha Cha that Bruno Tonioli summed up with one word, “perfection”. Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy delivered an instant Jive that was clean and crisp but a little off balance and Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani danced an instant Samba that was rushed a bit but still a pleasure to watch.
O.k., now back to the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” finale results.
Kelly Monaco and partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy were the first to be eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” landing the two in third place. At that time “DWTS” host Brooke Burke Charvet asked the question we have all wanted answered, “Are they a couple or not?”. I suppose we will never know because Monaco was vague with her answer. A romantic relationship was neither confirmed nor denied by either her or Chmerkovskiy. We will have to be content with, “It is what it is.”
Ironically, the elimination of Kelly Monaco left Shawn Johnson and Melissa Rycroft pitted against each other for the “DWTS: All-Stars” win. Ironic because Johnson and Rycroft were both in the “DWTS” finals during season 8 with Shawn Johnson taking the win and Melissa Rycroft coming in third place. Gilles Marini who was voted from the competition two weeks ago came in second place during the same season.
One other little note worth mentioning. As stated in the previous paragraph this was Melissa Rycroft’s first “DWTS” win. It was also the first win for Rycroft’s professional partner, Tony Dovolani. Tony has been a dance instructor for “DWTS” since season 2 but the closest he had ever gotton to the mirror ball trophy was third place. Third place for season 2 with partner Stacy Keibler and third place once again during season 8 with Melissa Rycroft.
How rewarding it must be for both Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani to have their first win to be the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” edition.
Well, that’s it for this season of “Dancing with the Stars”. It was an amazing season filled with spectacular dances and in the end a winner worthy of the “All-Stars” title was crowned. Congratulations to Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani for their “DWTS: All-Stars” win.
