Anyone can be conditioned to act, talk, think, work, not work, drive, walk, cry, respond with anger, respond with love, respond with ignorance, kill, support, fear, like, unlike, judge, read, write, sing, rap about, walk, dance, laugh, smile, grimace, dress, prepare, procrastinate, stress and amongst all other things, believe.
Blacks/African Americans have been conditioned to believe that they are less intelligent, incapable, less important and even conditioned to believe they are less than human.
The short video in this article is an example of classical conditioning. Two college students experiment with the theory.
How was classical conditioning discovered?
Ivan Pavlov discovered classical conditioning when he rang a bell and served his dog food, historical records show it to be powdered meat. Pavlov was a physiologist where physiology is the study of how systems and/or components of our body work.
Pavlov was actually trying to find out how much saliva was used in food digestion along with some other mysteries related to saliva and digestion.
Pavlov would ring a bell to call his dog and serve him food while the dog was hooked up to some saliva reading meter the physiologist used to measure. Pavlov’s experiment became difficult when just simply ringing the bell caused the dog to salivate.
The dog was conditioned by the sound of the bell. The dog began to understand that the bell sound meant food was to follow. There is video footage of the actual experiment located within the web.
The bell sound became a stimulus, where a stimulus is something that stimulates one to react. Anything can become a stimulus. Some examples of stimulus are lifestyle, food, money, cars, types of beauty, sex, attention or a certain behavior.
The food the dog received was positive reinforcement, where positive reinforcement is the enforcement or confirmation of an assumption in a positive way.
An example of positive reinforcement is giving your waiter or waitress a bigger tip when they do something extra like…refills of not just water but also salad at no charge. If you gave your waitress a $50.00 dollar tip whenever they did that, eventually, you would condition them to do that more often if not every time.
Back to Pavlov…
The dog was conditioned to associate the bell sound with food and eventually, merely ringing of a bell caused the dog to salivate. Naturally, Pavlov stopped serving food after the bell sound but it took a while for the dog to return to an unconditional state.
Another form of psychology focuses on long term classical conditioning. In long term classical conditioning, Pavlov would stop giving the dog food after the bell sound for a long period of time then out of the blue, return to giving dog food after the bell sound. Several trials of longer periods without food being given at the bell sound then a return to giving food at the bell sound would eventually create long term conditioning.
Blacks/African Americans have been conditioned to see their selves as less desirable in beauty minimizing the likelihood marriage and procreation within the race.
The definition and description may seem obvious to you as the reader but I encourage you to think critically and reflect upon the classical conditioning of persons in our society.
