On Nov. 27, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club announced its planned events for 2013. Among the year’s highlights are the D23 Expo, fan experiences to take place across the country, events at The Walt Disney Studios, and two experiences at Walt Disney World Resort.
The Disney Parks Blog announcement noted that D23’s biggest event will be the D23 Expo, scheduled for Aug. 9 – 11, 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center near Disneyland Resort. Billed “The Ultimate Disney Fan Event,” the D23 Expo offers attendees a look at all things Disney.
The D23 Expo provides information and experiences for fans of the theme parks, animated and live-action movies, television programming, consumer products, media and gaming, among other interests. The event’s highlights include panels and presentations, celebrity appearances, and special exhibits and merchandise.
Open to both D23 members and the general public, attendees who early register through Dec. 31 will receive discounted ticket prices. D23 Members receive an additional discount on tickets as well as special perks at the D23 Expo.

“D23’s Disney Fanniversary Celebration” takes place across the country
In 2013, “D23’s Disney Fanniversary Celebration” will travel to Boston, Newark, Orlando, Seattle, San Diego, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. These D23 events enable members enjoy special Disney experiences a little closer to home.
About to embark on its second year, “D23’s Disney Fanniversary Celebration” will take to the road in March and April. The events mark various milestones and anniversary in the history of The Walt Disney Company – whether those moments are related to the theme parks, movies, TV or Disney history more generally.
D23 hosts events at The Walt Disney Studios, advance movie screenings
D23 will offer its popular movie screenings at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif. Included in this year’s schedule is the return of D23’s “50 and Fabulous,” a series celebrating Disney films for their 50th anniversary. In 2013, films shown will be “Son of Flubber” (April 13), “Summer Magic” (June 8), and “The Sword in the Stone”(Sept. 15).
D23 also brings back “From the Vaults,” screenings that showcase favorite live-action films on the big screen. D23 members should mark their calendars for a digitally restored “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” screening on Nov. 16.
Members-only tours of the Studio Lot and Walt Disney Archives are the focus of the “D23 Day at The Walt Disney Studios And Archives” events. These tours, which always fill quickly, will take place May 4, June 1, Sept. 14, and Nov. 2.
D23 marks the Christmas season at Burbank by bringing back its “Disney and Dickens” in December. The holiday event features a Legends Plaza reception, followed by a tour of the original Animation building and screenings of some of Disney’s movies classics in Walt’s screening room.
For those who can’t make it to California, D23 will again partner with The Walt Disney Studios to offers members access to advance screenings of the latest Disney animated and live-action feature films. In 2012, D23 Members could be among the first to see “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Frankenweenie” and “Brave.”
D23 events bring members together at Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World will be the site of two announced D23 events. Members can enjoy Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World during “D23’s Sip and Stroll,” which will take place September 2013. They also may celebrate the holidays at Walt Disney World by signing up for “D23’s Holiday Splendor,” a new event to take place in December.
D23 members visit Mickey’s of Glendale, Disney Store
D23’s Mickey’s of Glendale shopping day is a must-do for fans of Disney merchandise. The Walt Disney Imagineering employee store in Glendale, Calif., will open its doors to members twice in 2013: Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, June 8.
Members will have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition merchandise and see the grounds of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts’ creative “think tank.”
Live too far from California for a shopping trip? In 2013, D23 will partner with Disney Store in key locations to host exclusive and one-of-a-kind events for members.
