A photo posted on Reddit has caused anger and disbelief by many people who are shocked at what one customer did at a restaurant.
Huffington Post posted the picture of a receipt on November 1st and within hours it was viral and people were mad.
A woman, we assume, dined at a restaurant and when the bill came for the total of $138.35 instead of leaving a tip, she wrote, “Single mom sorry” and left no money.
She did pay the bill with a Visa card and did try to make up for the lack of tip by posting underneath, “Thank you, it was great.”
After the photo of the receipt started making the rounds on the internet, people became outraged and some skeptical at the whole thing.
Many of the angry readers wondered how you could justify spending $140 on a meal and leave no tip when you could have gotten a lot of groceries instead.
Some of the comments on the Reddit site where it was posted had this to say;
D*****b*gs come in all shapes and sizes, even single Mom types.Sighhhhhh.”
“I’m a single Mom, and this is bullsh*t. What exactly are you teaching your kids? That it’s all about you – what you need, what you want, and screw everyone else. It’s YOU first.
As a server, this would have pissed me off…. I get it if you have bad service, but clearly it was great. I get if she’s a single mom, but then why can she afford a 140.00 bill? It’s a load of crap and shame on her for playing a typical guilt card so you don’t get pissed over the fact that you probably not only busted your ass for FREE (for upwards of an hour most likely) but I potentially also COST you money having that person there because of tipshare. Ugh. I’m annoyed just reading this.
Others wonder if the whole thing is real, some say that anyone could have written that and used a single mom as an excuse, some say it does not even look like the same handwriting in both areas, and others wonder if someone wrote that as a joke and paid the tip in cash.
“It’s completely possible that someone wanted to be an asshole and blame it on single moms. Honestly, the more I think about how anyone would do this to a waitress, the more I think it’s likely that this was just a very awful prank to make single moms look bad.”
“Maybe they were celebrating a special occasion and could not afford a tip.”
“How do we know the waiter or waitress did not do that as a joke and the tip was paid in cash?”
Know one knows the real story behind the receipt, and whether it is real or not or why if it is the person used that as an excuse.
No one has come forward and it is likely no one will.
What do you think? Do you think the receipt is real or fake?
If you think it is real, do you think the mother was justified in doing that or did she make all single moms look bad?
If someone can not afford to tip, do you think they should not go out to eat?
