*(Chicago, IL, November 21, 2012)—Local Mo’ Bros Benjamin Ritter and Peter Viña Jr. are guys you can really take at face value. In addition to sporting mustaches, or mos, for Movember, they will host a Movember fundraiser at Estate Ultra Bar, on Friday, November 30, 9-11pm, to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives through LIVESTRONG Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
“Movember” is a moustache-growing charity event held during November each year, now in its tenth year. Through not shaving, participants, known as “Mo Bros,” motivate themselves and others to change the face of men’s health by literally changing their own. The goal is to prompt private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
As men’s health and wellness advocates, Ritter and Viña’s vision and passion have inspired unique, cross-community support from local and brand names in men’s health, fitness, and fashion. Estate, where both Ritter and Viña are bartenders, will feature a wristband package with 2-hour open bar and passed appetizers, Don Julio Blanco sampling, music by Brent Brown and Kiss 103.5′s DJ Nurotic, and a raffle. Personal trainers from Wicker Park Fitness and Pelz Fit will be on-site providing free fitness consultations. Traditional “mustaches-on-a-stick” will be available at the event in conjunction with an Estate-sponsored Instragram hashtag (#) mustache contest. Sponsors and raffle prizes include two tickets to Estate’s New Year’s Eve event, Champagne Supernova, Wicker Park Fitness 3/mo membership & personal training session, Pelz Fit training program & sessions, X-Sport one-week passes, Whole Foods gift package, Chronology Clothing t-shirt and hat, gift cards from John Barleycorn River North, SushiSamba, Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, and Joseph Michael Salon, Weird Chicago Tours VIP tour passes, and The Pleasure Chest men’s health-focused gift package.
This year’s Movember is significant to both men for personal reasons. Ritter is anticipating the December launch of his debut self-help guide for men, The Essentials. “Taking care of your health is the first step toward any kind of self-improvement and plays a large role in social dynamics,” said Ritter. Viña joined Movember “Team Brent,” for a friend who recently overcame testicular cancer. “This was a wakeup call for me,” said Viña, “Since this could directly affect me, I felt it was time to step up and become more active in awareness of men’s health issues.”
Through working together at Estate, Ritter and Viña discovered shared similar interests in men’s health and wellness (as well as both having played Division 1 soccer in college). The two saw the joint fundraiser as an ideal opportunity to raise awareness for men’s health through a vibrant, cross-community venture. “Many of our sponsors from across the community were thrilled at the opportunity to support men’s health and wellness, from fitness to sex,” said Ritter.
“The Pleasure Chest is thrilled to be able to support the sexual and physical health of men in our community and help sponsor such an amazing fundraiser,” said Sarah Sloane, Pleasure Chest manager and sexuality and relationship educator.
