I recently had the opportunity to interview Cris August Arranage of the “OCGALP,”
“Orange County Ghosts and Legends Paranormal”).
The group has something exciting coming up, check it out.
Terra-How long have you been hunting the paranormal?
Cris-Myself personally, I have been interested in the paranormal for as long as I can remember. I’ve been fascinated with al of the unexplained. As far as taking a more active role in the filed with ‘OCGALP,” it’s only been about two years. I have done a lot of reading on the paranormal over the years and as a young adult.
Terra-I would think it would be a rush to have the chance to see something unexplained happen.
Cris-Before “OCGALP” I did some occasional ghost hunting on my own. It really is, and you think you’re crazy, so you try to explain it away.
Terra-That is the first thing people do, they try to find a reason among their normal experiences. If they can’t find it … it’s something else.
Terra-What made you want to start a group and where did you find your members.
Cris-My partner in crime is the founder of “orange County Ghosts and Legends.” He’s a veteran in the field.
Terra-What’s his name?
Cris-His name is Matt Harvey. He actually recruited me when I went on an investigation with him.
Terra-Were you excited or apprehensive?
Cris-Oh, I was very excited. I never really knew anyone who was the involved in the field so I was thrilled. Matt and I run the whole operation of “OCGALP.” We have guest investigators now and then.We both get pretty busy. We welcome guest investigators, but our goal is to keep “OCGALP” a small family.
Terra-Do people call you to ask for help?
Cris-We have an investigation at a private residence this weekend.
Terra-They called for help?
Cris-In a way, yes. They are scared. They do not understand what is happening around them (or the reports of what is happening around them).
Terra I see.
Cris-We will go in and see for ourselves that is going on.
Terra-How do you do that? Is it like on TV? Or is it something different?
Cris-What you see on TV can give you an idea of what we do. We can never claim to ride somebody’s home of anything. However, we do offer to check out the the residence, utilize various audio , video devices, EMF equipment etc. We try and collect data and come to a logical conclusion of what may be happening in their home or residence, if there is anything happening.
Terra-I often wonder what happens to the spirit after the TV crew has gone. What do you do if you find a spirit that is confused and wants to go … somewhere else?
Cris-As a team, we may utilize theories about spirits and “crossing over,” we are in the field to learn and understand. There are no concrete answers to the paranormal (Obviously). That being said, we try and implement ways of assistance we may feel is beneficial to a spirit who may be struck, lost or confused, by communicating with the spirit and assisting them with letting go, and going home (wherever that may be)
Terra-I’ve reviewed books and talk to people who think they can’t get a spirit to go to the light. That sounds simplistic to me.
Cris-It does sound simplistic.
Terra-In actuality, it can’t be that easy.
Cris-Unfortunately, until there are concrete answers about spirits we can only implement the knowledge we have gained or theories we may have. We can never claim or say we help guide a spirit to the light because who can prove that?
Terra-That’s a good policy to have because this field is still not a prove science … yet.
Cris-Exactly, hopefully some day it will be, but then again … that’s what keeps it interesting.
Terra-I understand you will be investigate the former Palm Springs home of Elvis Presley. When will that investigation be?
Cris-The Presley Estate is a dream come true for me personally.
Cris-Matt and I are the first to investigate the home, so it’s a great honor. Because the holidays are coming, we are shooting for the first public investigation around the new year. Elvis’ birthday is in early January, so it would be very fitting.
Terra-That is a great time. How many investigators will be with you?
Cris-We are opening it to the public so anybody can book a spot. This has never been done, so it’s a one of a kind experience.
Terra-Oh, OK. How much do you charge and how many spots are opened?
Cris-We will likely be doing back to back investigations on a friday and saturday night. We are closing the door at 24 people a night, two different groups. It’s a large estate, but we don’t want to over crowd. We will have an opening price of $75 a person.
Terra-That’s a great deal.
Cris-It’s not bad at all. A one of a kind experience, and we are really looking forward to people experiencing it with us. Elvis fans all over the world know about the estate, but the paranormal fans, this is new territory. We really want people to know about it.
Terra-Have you booked many spots yet?
Cris-We haven’t picked the date for the new year. But we are offering pre sales for first come first served. How many people can say they were among the first to investigate ”The King’s’ house? His bedroom? The living room where he recorded an album and had countless parties? He married his dentist in his bedroom. So many stories in that house, It’s awesome.
Terra-That’s true, a unique experience. You should really have some king of Christmas special. People will want to give this as a present. Who else owned the house?
Cris-Absolutely, we thought about that, I would LOVE this as a Christmas gift. I’m gifting it to myself, haha.
The home was owned by the Jergens family (Jergen’s lotions products) and also by the McDonald’s family.
Terra-Wow, that must be some fancy house.
Cris-Frankie Valle owned it for a short time after Elvis passed.
Cris-You know, you’d be surprised how humble and simple Elvis was. It’s a large property, but fairly simple.
Terra-He was a southern boy, they ae raised to be police and humble. He had good parents.
Cris-Exactly, his mother had the greatest impact on him.
Terra-She seemed like such a good person. He loved her very much.
Cris-Very much. His mother adored him, and it was mutual.
Terra-If you have some photos from any of your investigations, I’d love to see some.
Cris-We have some posted on our Facebook page, but we don’t always post photos from investigations as they are always so questionable.
This investigation is right up your alley if you are an Elvis fan. It would make a great gift for Christmas.
