I have to admit that as of late, I started seeing a couple more romantic comedies than I use too. It is easier to say yes when the actress in the movie is attractive like Jennifer Lawrence. It also helps when the actor is also good looking for your Mrs. So, of course I said yes to “Silver Linings Playbook”.
Pat Solitano is a man who was put into a mental institute for beating a co-worker severely after finding him with his wife. He got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was given meds to take that he absolutely refuses to take. After a year, the court releases him to his parents’ custody. His mother comes and picks him up and takes him home.
Pats dad was unaware of him coming home and is unsure if it was a wise decision to release him. You find out that his dad has OCD and a gambling problem. Pat still thinks that his wife Nikki will still want him back after his rehabilitation at the hospital. A couple of nights after his return home, his friend invites him over for dinner and introduces Pat to Tiffany. Pat finds out that Tiffany’s husband died which sent her spiraling out of control but never admitted to a mental institute. They soon realize that they might have more in common than they initially thought.
I was very surprised at how great the acting was in this movie. Bradley Cooper plays Pat and Jennifer Lawrence plays Tiffany. With a supporting cast of Jacki Weaver who plays Pats mom and Chris Tucker who plays his friend from the mental institute one of the actors who stole the show was Robert De Niro who plays Pats dad. He made me believe that he really did have his issues in the movie.
The best actor in the movie though was a tossup between the Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Both of them did an outstanding job and had me cheering for them to get together. There were times where I was laughing out loud at a lot of the lines in the movie between the two. They had very good chemistry together and I really hope they are put in more movies together. I read on starpulse that Lawrence wasn’t really even considered for the role of Tiffany but ended up winning over the director with her audition.
If you get a chance to see this movie you really need to. Make a date night out of it and grab something to eat then head over and check this out. Sure both actors are easy on the eyes but the story and the chemistry between the two was some of the best I’ve seen in a very long time on screen. They even say that Lawrence might be up for an Oscar for her role.
