Michigan vs Ohio State
When: Saturday, November 24, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Ohio Stadium
The Michigan Wolverines still had an outside shot of winning the Legends division. First they needed a Nebraska loss on Friday, but the Cornhuskers beat Iowa (13-7) in a windy game. Now they need to go on the road and win at Ohio State 24 hours later for pride. Another reason this game is huge for Michigan is that Ohio State remains undefeated. Without the chance at a postseason berth, an Ohio State win could leave them as the people’s champ. The Buckeyes passed every test so far this year. They have a real live Heisman contender, but the probation is hurting his stock in a major way.
In the beginning of the season, this game was built as the Denard Robinson verse Braxton Miller show. Both quarterbacks have rushed for over 1000 yards, but they’ve done it in different ways. While Denard was flowing along nicely, an elbow injury against Nebraska kept him out of a couple of games. Braxton missed the fourth quarter of the Purdue game, but with all the hits, he has managed to stay relatively healthy. Devin Gardner has moved back from receiver to quarterback for Michigan. A new wrinkle added late in the season has Denard Robinson playing running back along side Gardner. It’s not known if Denard is able to throw the ball, but if he can, Ohio State should expect some trickery from Michigan.
Carlos Hyde leads the Buckeyes with 16 touchdowns and he will play a big factor in the outcome on Saturday. Though they don’t pass often, Braxton Miller will have to hit some plays down field to loosen up the Wolverine defense. Wide Receiver Philly Brown has the speed to make big plays in the passing game. He can also be a threat in the return game.
Michigan’s defense is much better than Ohio State’s defense. However, the last month of the season has been better for the Buckeyes. The Buckeye’s will have to watch for who is behind center when Gardner and Robinson are in the game. The did hold Wisconsin to 14 points last week, so the Buckeyes are well equipped to match up with Michigan’s running game. Even when things are going well, both teams have to be wary of huge chunk plays and showcase sound defensive football.
Ohio State has survived all year long with big plays in the fourth quarter. This is the last game for the seniors and they can go out as undefeated Big 10 champs. Michigan still wants to knock off Ohio State for the second time in a row. It may be difficult to sustain long drives for touchdowns, so barring the big plays, don’t expect a lot of scoring, if the defenses can tackle well.
