Among the many fun things to do around the holidays are baking cookies and building a gingerbread house. If you’re looking for places to do these Christmas activities with your kids, the St. Louis area has some great workshops to offer.
On December 8, 2012, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., the City of Creve Coeur will host Gingerbread Express, a gingerbread house building activity for kids ages 4 through 12. The event takes place at the Tappmeyer House inside Millennium Park at 2 Barnes West Drive. As children work on their gingerbread houses, they can enjoy hot cocoa and apple cider too! The cost for residents is $9; non-residents pay $12. To register, call 314-432-3961.
On December 15, 2012 Schnucks Cooking School at 12332 Manchester Road in Des Peres will offer Mom and Me: Gingerbread House Construction for ages 5-8. For a fee of $35 a team of one parent and one child can work together with supplied materials to build a beautiful gingerbread house, while enjoying pizza and punch for lunch. There are two class times, the first from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and the second from 2:30 through 4:30 p.m. Call 314-909-1704 to register.
On December 22, 2012 there will be a special class for teens ages 12 through 15 at the Schnucks Cooking School in Des Peres. The Saturday’s Teens: Filling out the Cookie List workshop runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. For a fee of $35, teens will get to make Wyoming Whoppers, Chocolate Chip cookies, Pistachio Cherry cookies and Hello Dollies while enjoying a pizza dinner. Kids get to bring home their cookie creations to share with friends and relatives for the holidays.
Every weekend through December 23rd, Eckert’s Farm in Belleville will host Gingerbread House Workshops. No reservations are required. Simply visit Eckert’s between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and for a fee of $12, kids will get everything they need to build a scrumptious-looking gingerbread house. Parents are welcome to build too! Throughout December, the St. Louis County Library is offering Art @ Your Library: Cookie Decorating, a class for children ages 8 through 11, Holiday Cookie Decorating for Kids, a class for ages 5 and up and Family Night: Cookie Decorating.
