With Christmas around the corner, there are quite a few opportunities to party and shop for the animals and to see the one and only Santa Pawz. Here’s a rundown of many of the great activities in the Chicago area this weekend.
Thursday, November 29
Be Fido’s Friend is getting into the holiday spirit by hosting a fundraiser to support one of Chicago’s other non-profits – Safe Humane Chicago. The fundraiser will be at Dovetail at 1452 West Chicago Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. Just $10 gets you into the party for wine, appetizers, raffles and shopping to help the education efforts of Save Humane Chicago.
Friday, November 30
The Animal Care League will hold its 27th Annual Holiday Bazaar from 3 to 9 .m. at 6930 West Roosevelt Road. There will be holiday items, pet goodies, gift baskets, baked goods, jewelry and more. Bring your kids and pets for photos with Santa.
Stop by the Tree House Humane Society’s Uptown Branch on Carmen for Meows, Munchies and More from 6 to 10 p.m. The Andersonville neighborhood will be up late with all kinds of fun, shopping and entertainment with lots of special deals and discounts. Stop by for tours of the shelter and to help decorate for Lights of Love.
Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2
Get a personalized illustration of your pet by artist George Berlin. He’ll be at Bentley’s Barkery in Arlington Heights at 90 South Evergreen from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and at the Schaumburg location at 691 Golf on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Illustrations are $60 and feature one of five backgrounds with 10 percent of proceeds supporting Trio Animal Foundation. The PetSmart at 5482 Touhy in Skokie is the place to be for photos with Santa Claws benefiting Chicago Pet Rescue. The rescue will be there from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days and will host an adoption event on Sunday as well.
Dog-a-holics on Southport in Chicago is sponsoring its Seventh Annual Pictures with Santa Paws from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. Your $40 donation will benefit Chicago Canine Rescue. Call the boutique to set up an appointment at 773.857.7600.
Save-A-Pet will hold a Holiday Open House from noon until 4 p.m. at their adoption center. There will be a bake sale and holiday gifts available for purchase. The tree lighting and animal blessing will be in front of Save-A-Pet at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Every adopted pet will go home with a special gift this weekend.
Saturday, December 1
Second Chance 4 Pets and 2×2 Rescue will hold a Holiday Bazaar and adoption event at Xtrememotorsports at 6647 Kennedy Avenue in Hammond, Indiana. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and shop for cool stuff or check out the loveable adoptables. The Santa Paws supply drive and fundraising campaign team will also be on hand – check out details here.
Unleashed Doggy Day Care at 1535 Dayton is hosting a Holiday Market to support Project Rescue Chicago from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be lots of cool items for purchase like pottery, jewelry, food items and some doggy stuff along with wonderful auction items for bid.
Heartland Animal Shelter will be hosting its photo with Santa Paws event from noon until 3 p.m. For a $5 donation to the shelter, you and your pet(s) can have a special Holiday Picture taken with Santa Paws. Electronic photos will be emailed after the event! Donations from the shelter wish list are also welcome.
Santa Paws is Coming to Town to help out Young at Heart Pet Rescue from 1 to 3 p.m. at All Things Woof at 29 East Maine in Roselle. For a $15 donation, have your Pet’s photo taken with Santa.
Kirby’s Doggy Day Care will have their grand opening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5706 Northwest Highway in Chicago. Holiday photos with Santa, raffles and more with a special care tree benefitting Secondhand Snoots.
Stop by Doggy Style Pet Shop at 2023 West Division for Photo’s with Santa from noon to 5 p.m. to benefit Alive Rescue. For a $15 donation, receive a photo at the event along with an email with the electronic photos.
Ring in the start of the holiday season with the Little Paws, Big Hearts Gala at the Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows to benefit the Almost Home Foundation. There will be dinner, dancing and fabulous auction items. Tickets are $60 and may be purchased in advance online. Learn more about the gala and sponsorship opportunities online.
Sunday, December 2
It’s time for photos with Santa Pawz at Central Bark at 256 Commerce Drive in Grayslake from 9 a.m. until noon. Photos may be purchased for $15 with additional photos available online. There will also be a raffle and bake sale to benefit Placing Paws medical fund for Aries the dog. Central Bark will be matching the money raised.
Stop by the Mega-Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale for the Animals at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be lots of great pet gear and rescue wear along with photos with Santa and Holiday Karaoke. Ten different organizations will be on hand – A Dog’s Day Rescue, Alive Rescue, Blackdog All Breed Rescue, Bow Wow Revolution, Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue, Dog House Humane Group, Lost Dogs Illinois, Pets are Like Family, The Puppy Mill Project and Tree House Humane Society. There is a $5 donation that will benefit all the rescues.
Wright-Way Rescue will hold it’s low-cost vaccination clinic from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at their Niles Adoption Center at 7136 W Touhy. Pets are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. See rates for various vaccinations online.
Animal advocates will be staging an informational protest in front of Happiness is Pets at 1592 West Ogden in Naperville from noon until 2 p.m. The group will be educating the public about the connection between puppy mills and dogs sold in pet stores. Signs will be provided and parking is available at the Boulder Terrace Animal Hospital. This is a family- and dog-friendly protest.
The Hungry Hound Grooming Salon at 8243 Wicker Avenue in St. John, Ind. will host a Puppy Shower from 1 to 3 p.m. for 2×2 Rescue. The $5 per family donation will get you cake, other snacks and puppy cuddles. Supply donations of puppy food, treats, toys, leashes and crates (new and gently used). Maple and her puppies are expected to make an appearance (see story).
Harmony House for Cats will hold its Holiday Party from 6 to 8 p.m. at Revolution Brewing at 2323 North Milwaukee in Chicago. Tickets are $30 and include beer, soda and some appetizers. There will be a special appearance by the Polkaholics. Reservations are due in by 3 p.m. Friday. Learn more here.
