Here are my selected highlights for the week leading up to Thanksgiving. Nearly all beer venues are closed on Thanksgiving Day. I only know the Tribes Alehouse in Tinley Park and Mokena will be open, and others may be, so be certain, of course, to call ahead to your favorite venue if the turkey gets ruined.
I will have a “Black Friday Weekend” calendar page up soon. Just a note: if you wanted to go to the Black Friday event at Goose Island’s Clybourn brewpub, that is sold out!

Half Acre Quakerbridge Barley Wine release
Half Acre Brewing, 4257 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248-4038
As the mercury falls, we inevitably see the heft in our beers climb. As the bulky beers begin to brew we all size up our holiday season. Family members begin to make their pilgrimage to the patch of land they call home, excessive meals are planned, gluttony ensues. We welcome the cold and greet these holiday-rich days with Quakerbridge Barley Wine. An incarnation of a Half Acre favorite, Marty Stouffer’s Wild America Barley Wine, this weighty beer is a choose-your-own-adventure experience. Freshly plugged, this beer is a gooney 10% hop guster to bring your holiday retreat to its knees, but time allows this brew to round and settle into an ever maltier bomb of balance. Whether your mug is beside a Thanksgiving gobbler or a holiday ham, let our bottled elixir join you and your family on its collision course of celebration.
We’ll be offering bottles in preparation for Thanksgiving this upcoming Monday, November 19th. 22 oz. bottles – $10.99 + tax

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a 1987 American comedy film written, produced and directed by John Hughes. The film stars Steve Martin as Neal Page, a high-strung advertising executive, who meets Del Griffith, played by John Candy, an eternally optimistic, overly talkative, well-meaning, but clumsy shower curtain ring salesman who seems to live in a world governed by a different set of rules. They share a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to get Neal home to Chicago from New York City in time for Thanksgiving dinner with his family.

This year will be our last before we move into the new restaurant and brewery across the street next fall.
So this year will mean an awful lot to us and everyone who has shown up over the years. The bar, Amber Room, restaurant, and heated and tented bier garden will all be open to accommodate the party. Admission is free to enter and only one dollar if you want to head upstairs and check out this years band…Samadhi Vibe. Don’t miss the biggest blowout of the year! 21 and older please.

5:00 pm • Black Wednesday Special Beer Tappings at Maple Tree Inn
Maple Tree Inn, 13301 S. Olde Western Ave, Blue Island, IL (708) 388-3461
Last year for Black Wednesday, we asked our fans to vote on which beer they’d like to see tapped to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA ended up beating out Goose Island Bourbon County Stout by only a couple of votes.
This year, we’ve decided to tap the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, in addition to a very special and rare offering from Founders, their 15th Anniversary barley wine beer, “Bolt Cutter.” Less than 300 barrels were brewed and shipped across the entire country, and recent reviews indicate that this is a beer not to be missed! Both beers will be tapped at 5:00 pm.
