Monday, Dec. 31
NYE Sandy Hook Fundraiser at Lake Bluff Brewing
Lake Bluff Brewing Co., 16 E. Scranton Ave. Lake Bluff, IL
A slightly different “drink special” as we support our brothers and sisters who are suffering following the Sandy Hook tragedy in Newtown, CT. We will donate half of the proceeds from sales on New Year’s Eve to My Sandy Hook Family Fund, and if you wish, allow you to make separate donations via cash, check or credit card at the brewery on January 31. The My Sandy Hook Family Fund is described by its director as:
We are the parents of the children who survived. We are the classmates, friends, and the little league coaches. Sandy Hook is where we live — it is our proud community. We ask the world to join us not only in our grief but also in our burning need to take some of the burdens off these families in their time of incredible pain. To bear their cross in some small way. We intend to use donations to pay for immediate needs, including funeral services, as well as ongoing living expenses such as food, mortgages payments, daycare, insurances and fuel until they are back on solid ground. Please help us help our own neighbors beyond sharing their tears. All net funds received will go directly to the families who lost children and immediate family members.
Make a difference this New Year by having an awesome time with great friends and incredible beer, all while celebrating the sense of community that makes Lake Bluff and Newtown special.

Half Acre Brewing, 4257 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248-4038
2012 was a great year for Half Acre Beer Company. In our building, we expanded our brewing operation, filling the building to capacity, and also opened up a tap room, where you can enjoy our beers in our house. As we look forward to 2013, we wanted to give back to folks in our city, which is why we decided to partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository for a food drive. The food drive will kick off on New Year’s Eve, in the tap room, and will continue into the new year. The suggested donation for admission will be a canned food item (list of approved non-perishable items available here). We plan on showcasing some of our favorite beers from 2012 by putting them on tap one last time, and the tappings will happen at random throughout the day. At midnight, to ring in 2013 we’ll be popping bottles of Daisy Cutter that were bottle-conditioned on champagne yeast. Food will also be available later in the evening. Help us kick off our food drive on New Year’s Eve, and enjoy some special beers while doing so. Please note, we will be CLOSED on January 1, 2013.

9:00 pm – 2:00 am ♦ New Year’s Eve of Destruction?
Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar, 960 W. 31st St., Chicago (773) 890-0588
With the Presidential election settled (try telling that to those states who want to secede), discussions for a possible compromise between both Democrats and Republicans are taking place within the beltway on the looming “fiscal cliff”. This crisis is scheduled to go in effect on midnight of December 31, 2012 (New Years Eve) due to the enactment of the Budget Control Act of 2011 which features a number of tax increases and spending cuts that are expected to weigh heavily on growth and possibly drive the economy back into a recession. We here at Maria’s are taking a stand against this impending “Thelma & Louise” economic crisis by hosting a fiscally responsible, cost-cutting “New Years Eve of Destruction (?)” party. To protect against any budget deficits that might impact your personal economy our “New Years Eve of Destruction” will be free to one and all with no exorbitant cover charge that is the norm on the holiday. The event will also feature a complimentary glass of champagne at midnight, another budgetary concern to cut unneeded spending during these precarious financial times, free party favors, appetizing appetizers and $1 off all draft beers. We will of course offer our vast selection of craft beers, community cocktails and whiskeys and spirits to ring in the new year. These GDP’s (Good Damn Pours) if taken in too quickly may lead to a more difficult next-day recovery that is predicted by economists and bartenders alike. Another leading indicator for a better overall recovery will be the “deep cuts” of DJ B-Side (Jennifer Burns). She will raise the roof, therefore protecting us all from the debt ceiling, with hard-hitting non-partisan measures including Chicago House, 80’s jams, disco, funk and soul.
