Ugh! The most frustrating storyline on The Young and the Restless these days, for me anyway, is the Chelsea / Adam / Sharon triangle. I guess the writers are doing their jobs by keeping me on the edge of my seat, however, I just want to shake my television over and over again to knock some sense into Adam.
Michael Muhney is an extremely talented actor. He plays “Adam” so well! Much like Michael Muhney, Adam is intelligent, sarcastic and full of witty comments. He’s easy to hate, however, he’s just as easy to love. I’ve been so excited for the headway Michael has been making with this character. The writers have given Michael some room to develop Adam into a fine man.
Adam is torn between Chelsea and Sharon, although, I don’t feel that it’s equally the same. Sharon is his first wife, the first real love of his life. Adam did some horrendeous things to Sharon, taking her baby away, making her believe Faith was dead. But as Adam’s character developed, we witnessed a changed man. We began to see and feel an Adam we’ve come to love. Sharon and Adam had some potential, but then when things got rough, Sharon tossed him aside like yesterday’s news. Adam begged for forgiveness. Sharon said, “it’s over!” And off Adam went.
Enter Chelsea, the hot little firecracker carrying Billy’s baby. Adam and Chelsea became friends as they leaned on each other for support when everyone else was piling the crap on top of them. Adam saved Chelsea’s life, and little Johnny’s as well. Adam helped Chelsea finish school. Chelsea helped Adam get over his broken heart. They blossomed from friends to real love. They helped each other, rather than hurt each other. They married in Kansas at the farmhouse. It was real! They were expecting a baby boy. Summer crashed her car into theirs. The baby was gone! (COME ON JOSH GRIFFITH … this has happened before!!) Chelsea was left suffering and grieving, while Adam hid his feelings and went off to rescue Sharon. (Another thing done before, only it was Nick taking off with Phyllis, leaving a grieving Sharon behind). Adam felt that because of what he did to Sharon and Faith, losing this baby was karma coming back at him. He had to make it right for Sharon. He still loves Chelsea. Adam is torn. He doesn’t want to lose his wife, but he doesn’t want to hurt her either. He doesn’t know what he’s feeling anymore. He knows Chelsea is the woman he loves so much, but Sharon’s life fell apart because of what he did to her. He has to make it right in order to get on with his life. He can’t hurt Chelsea in the process.
The storyline has been so great that even I can’t predict what’s going to happen here. It’s been so intense and exciting. I see that Sharon is going to be moving on, away from the Newman family men. Adam, I hope, will make things right with Chelsea. I want to see Adam, although he’s most like Victor, become a better man than Victor. I want to see Adam outsmart his father and win over Newman Enterprises. I want to see Adam fall back in love with Chelsea and finally have the family he so deserves. I want to see Adam finally have the chance to be the father he never had in Victor. I want Adam to run his father’s company and make it an even bigger success. Adam and Chelsea could be the couple in love that we actually can’t wait to see because of their playfulness and the life the two of them bring to the screen. Michael Muhney and Melissa Claire Egan work so well together. I am excited to see what unfolds with their storyline in the next few weeks, especially now with Sharon out of the picture.
