The full moon was out and the stars (the two-legged kind) were shining on the Strip this weekend, getting the New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas off and running.
On Saturday night, Kaskade played a set lasting until the early hours of the morning at the Halfway to EDC celebration at Marquee Nightclub.
David Spade was spotted at Lavo dining on Chicken Mushroom Ravioli and Prosciutto and chatting with his fans.
Kelly Rowland was on stage at Rain Nightclub at the Palms. The former member of Destiny’s Child, wearing a short gold dress with light blue pumps, trimmed with gold jewels, sang “Motivation” and “Soldier” from her Destiny’s Child days, her Nelly duet “Dilemma” and the new David Guetta collaboration “When Love Takes Over.”
Questlove of The Roots and DJ Jazzy Jeff performed a show that has never been seen before at Moon Nightclub. The duo—Questlove on the drums and Jazzy on the turntables—rocked the house with a unique collaborative performance.
Neon Hitch performed at Chateau Nightclub, wearing a bedazzled black top and matching briefs accented by an intricate necklace, matching briefs, peep toe pumps and a floor-length pink shawl.
“I’m so happy to be here. I know this is the place to be for New Year’s Eve,” exclaimed Hitch.
Ludacris turned it on at The Bank, performing until the wee hours of the morning.
On Friday, Nas, with sounds by DJ Politik, kicked the weekend off at Tao, surprising the crowd with an impromptu performance that included “Hate Me Now,” Made You Look” and “If I Ruled the World.” “We’re going to rule the world in 2013,” Nas declared from the stage.
Taking in the scene were Laura Prepon, best known for her role in “That ‘70s Show,” and actor Austin Stowell from “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” U.S. track and field Olympian Duane Solomon was seen at a table on the dance floor as well.
At Marquee Nightclub, DJ ATB started off the venue’s four-day dance party, which will finish on Dec. 31 with Benny Benassi’s headlining performance.
The Killers, a band born in Las Vegas, was on fire at The Chelsea. They honored their hometown with a Killer rendition of Sinatra’s “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
“It feels good to be back home,” said Brandon Flowers who sings lead vocals and plays keyboard.
Brittney Palmer, the sparkly UFC Octagon ring girl, kicked off New Year’s weekend and the UFC 155 at Chateau Nightclub at Paris Las Vegas.
Palmer, who studies art at UCLA, said she was looking forward to 2013 and that her New Year’s resolution is “to spend more time painting original pieces.”
