No doubt, Fort Myers’ downtown River District knows how to throw a party. From the monthly Art and Music Walks to the Zombicon Convention to the world-class Festival of Light party and parade, the River District can always be counted on to bring you a day of fun at a very frugal price. So it’s not surprising that you will have a fun time in downtown Fort Myers between 6 p.m. on New Year’s eve, and the wee hours on New Year’s day.
There will be so much going on that it’s hard to know where to start, but here goes:
There will be nine, count ‘em, nine musical acts performing live on five stages. On the main stage, ZZ Top tribute band Trezz Hombres will perform between 6:45 and 8:45. From 8:45 to 10:30 you will hear US Stones, a Rolling Stones tribute band. At 11:15 to 11:30, American Idol season 9 competitor Paige Miles will take to the stage. Finally, Miami Sound featuring Lawrence Dermer will take us from 11:30 into 2013.
Beginning at 8:30, the other four stages will come alive, including Jackie Figueroa on the Univision Stage, Son Salvage on the Budweiser Stage, Indecision and Stolen Fruit in the Patio de Leon, and the Jewmaicans on the Reggae Stage. And if the live performances aren’t enough, DJ Gentry will be manning the DJ Tower all night long. In addition to an evening of music, 2013 will be ushered in at Fort Myers by a synchronized New York style ball-drop and a stunning show of fireworks over the Fort Myers river basin.
There will also be other activities to make sure you and your family’s New Year celebration is fun and exciting. Special family activities, including bounce houses, ball pits, an obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, a balloon typhoon, costume dress-up, music, crafts and games for the kids will be available at a modest price (6 and under free).
This is not just a fun event, but a frugal one as well. There is no admission to any of the concerts, and the ball drop and fireworks are free as well. Whenever Fort Myers has a big free event, parking can be a challenge though so arrive early and consider using one of the parking decks where you will pay one fixed price upon entry.
Finally, if you don’t mind spending a few extra dollars, you can purchase admission to preferred seating which will get you the best seats for the DJ stage, ball drop and fireworks. There are two areas of preferred seating. For $10, you can purchase a pass to seating level two. $15 gets you into the better level one seating. Tickets are available in advance online. Incidentally, for $99, you can get a VIP pass including food and many other amenities. If you are interested, click here.
But even if you go the frugal route, it is sure to be fun. Mark it on your calendar.
