Bay area metallers Kill Ritual, unleashed a fury of pounding and slashing tracks that will definitely fulfill you music needs on their latest efforts entitled The Serpentine Ritual (Scarlet Records 2012). Armed with metal veterans Wayne DeVecchi (drums), Steve Rice (Guitar), Josh Gibson (Vocals), Roberto Proietti (Guitar), and Danyael Williams-Bass. These musicians put together a true metal anthem release that will no doubt fortify your CD collection. The band comes together from different bands, (Imagika, Eldritch, and Dark Angel) each very much accomplished with their perspective history.
What we have here on “The Serpentine Ritual” is track after track of brutal unprecedented melodic metal. Josh takes this really great metal band and pushes them over the limits. The title track The Serpentine Ritual sets the stage for the rest of the album with wailing solos and dynamic drumming. Indeed a thrash attack that will have you hitting rewind. Gibson’s vocals are silky sounding as it cascades against the rest of the bands music. You will definitely be humming the melody line afterwards. “Torn Down” starts off as a slashing riff and Gibson sings right along with it. This would be most likely a song that would bring down a house in concert. Melodic song “Time to Kill” is a skillfully designed track that is both melodic and full of double bass. An extremely strong track. If you are a guitarist you have to listen to the song “Ambush”, this track has many different segments to it and will keep you guessing what Rice is playing. Rice’s solos throughout this release really makes him a guitarist to follow if you are not familiar with his work. “Old School Thrasher” lives up to its name. It is a powerful song from beginning to end. Full of galloping riffs and screaming solos.”Coat of Blood” is an extremely melodic metal song with guest soloist from King Diamond’s band Andy LaRouque. A must listen to track. Gibson also gets to show off his range. One of my favorite tracks off this release is “Cold Hard Floor”, which is a screaming guitar song. This song has the vibe of Judas Priest and Testament and Anthrax all mixed together. If you are a metal head you have to listen to this one. There are other tracks on this release that you need to listen to.
Overall: there are no sissy tracks on this one. It is a straight up, in your face, total metal onslaught. So if you are looking for a new band to check out you need to look into Kill Ritual and grab this one. “The Serpentine Ritual” lives up to the hype. Make it part of your collection today!
I conducted an interview with the drummer Wayne DeVecchi recently in regards to this release and much more. Give it a listen and enjoy KR. Plus there is a song at the end of the interview.
